Hey guys I heard that the body can only utilize up to 30 grams of protein a hour. Is that accurate? And wouldn't that mean a lot of protein shakes and weight gainers wasteful?

Not sure how true the statement is, but it is said to take your protein in throughout the day. I usually take in about 30 grams per protein shake.

Wow I was just going to post a similar question very close to this.

But thinking about that hour. Is 30gph based on how long its in your system? or does that mean that your body can process 30gph for a total of 720gram per day?

So if its based on how long its in your system, I am not quite sure what part of the GI extrapolates proteins. But just guessing if it is 30gph and your food takes 3 hours to pass through the part of the GI that absorbs the protein. Wouldn't that mean you could take in 90grams per meal then?

I am not sure how much the body can process a day or at any time so this is a great question to ask. I am taking in 100 to 125grams over the course of the day and was wondering if the body could process more or if more is needed to really bulk up (LBM). So good question you posted.

This is a falsehood that's been propagated by bodybuilders for a long time. Depending on the amino acid, the small intestine absorption rate will vary. However, because the body will not waste nutrients, it will actually slow down digestion and gastic motility to avoid having too many nutrients come through that it can't absorb. This is done via hormonal regulation. You can eat 100g of straight protein - your body will control the rate at which the stomach empties into the small intestine so that it can utilize all of it. Essentially, if your body can't absorb it, it won't even empty it into the organs that will do that. Your own body will time it correctly.

Thanks for the wonderful explanation.
