<< 22%, if that is what you are getting since you do not eat meats, is plenty, IF your overall calories are adequate to support your lifestyle. If your calories are too low, then your protein, as well as fat and carb intake may be too low. I would calculate that first.

Do you take in protein supplements, like powders or is it from legumes and peanuts?

Sure proteins that come from different sources are different, but one is not necessarily better than another. A well rounded intake of protein is optimal, but not life-giving.

I get most of my protein from legumes, almond butter, dairy, and some protein fortified grains. I eat enough calories, and I'm not withering away. Since I eat less fat that the USDA recommended (but more than than enough for health), I'm not sure of the remaining part of the ratio is supposed to go to protein or carbs.

And now that my poor thread has degenerated to discussion of man meat, I can say --without a doubt and after rigorous testing by me and many other ladies-- that men who eat a diet high in animal proteins (and/or) who smoke have a strongly flavored "discharge". The tastiest men consume a lot of fruit. And before you all say that's bs, think about what consitutes that fluid. Give me a fruit pop over a corn dog any day! :D

If you eat 20% you're fine, although protein from vegetables and legumes and all that crap is almost always inferior in biological value to animal proteins so you have to mix ideal combinations.

<< and frankly, guys don't like girls that don't eat meat ;) >>

why would this be true? it's such an irrelevant factor to friendship/relationships with girls. myself, i'm a vegetarian and i prefer girls that are too. nothing like kissing a girl after dinner and getting a big mouthfull of meat taste. :disgust:
>>

what about kissing a girl after a nice non-meat bean, tofu and cheese dinner?

Did somebody say potato fart? :D

Corn Dog ?? where do you live ?? they only grow Cocktail Sausages around here...

On a serious note, have you read Diet for a Small Planet?
IIRC it answers most of your questions and has stacks of yummy recipes to boot.

gah
so much filth in this thread
;)

don't merely rely on the percentage of protein
you need to consider what type of protein you're consuming as well
make sure you're getting complete protein
our body can't synthesize 8 amino acids so you need to get these from your diet
i believe soy is the only plant complete protein
but if you combine rice, corn, beans, legumes, nuts, etc. in the right combination...you'll be fine

I have a vegan friend who was trying to get me away from my meat enhanced diet......:)

He confirmed what kei said. Its not the percentage of proteins thats most important, its the amount of amino acids that you need to consume. I am not sure how effective amino acid suppliments are either. It sounds like the proteins you eat are pretty varied. I would make sure though that your not missing any amino acids though. My friend made up a variation on the 7 bean soup that contains most of his amino acid needs.

I usually let the cows, chicken, or fish cook up my protein need:D.
I think I eat a balanced diet; I always have vegetables with every meal, raw and undressed just I like my woman.
