Protein farts OMG

OK so I almost broke a rib laughing right now. Seriously, deep belly laugh that had me totally frozen like a statue in one huge full body laugh contraction. Why? Because lately my ass has been expelling some toxic gas that could easily be bottled and sold to North Korea as a genuine WMD. I didn't know why it was so consistent, until I thought, "maybe its the protein?".
I just learned that protein farts are a real thing and have been looking at all the protein fart meme's on the net. Oh good god that was hilarious. Jesus dressed in a tiger suit, this is hilarious.

I must admit, I've had some pretty gnarly expulsions since I started taking ON gold standard whey protein in the morning. I'm not 100% sure it's from the protein though because it comes and goes even though I keep taking the same amount at the same time every day.

I read that the body can't absorb all that protein efficiently, so enzymes or whatever in your gut create a gas as a result. Something like that is happening. Its from excessive amounts of protein I think.

I dont take supplements but have been eating much healthier. During the week day, I eat scrambled eggs and sausage or a small breakfast burrito and coffee for breakfast, but for lunch have a turkey wrap, carrots, a pickle, and some fruit. My farts are horrendous and can peel paint. When I eat crap though, I don't fart. I read that healthier food makes more gas so it all adds up. /shrug

I woke myself up two times last night after farting in my sleep and it worked its way up out of the covers near my face. I'd like to blame it on the dog, but yeah.. its horrible.

Nothing bests polydextrose for rank gas. And if you want extra fun mix it with copious amounts of Xylitol. Protein farts have nothing on PolyD, let alone the PlyD+Xylitol mix. If you want to turn this into a WMD worthy effort add in some ground flax.

Yeah, that gluten free, sugar free cookie "flax cookie" could very well put you in prison for attempted murder. You have been warned.

My protein powder has flax in it I think. I ate it all so its time to choose another one. I think I'll take a look at that weird chemical stuff you mentioned above. I'd like to see what that does to me.

Definitely the opposite for me. When I'm eating clean I have very little gas, and if I do, it's generally pretty close to odorless. When I eat fast food, pizza, candy or drink soda/alcohol things get dicey - super stank stuff and in massive volume.

Yeah I get them from ON gold standard sometimes. It's strange, if I drink it an hour before bed, I'll always get the gas in the morning with a non-solid stool. This is with only water as well (at first I thought it was the milk).

If I take it earlier in the day, I don't get the farts at all. Strange.

Never had issue with protein farts. But I used to eat all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ at least once a week in the past and I'm pretty sure my body has adapted to being gorged on protein.

I get the toots from too much carbs. Bread, rice, cereal, whatever. It's gotten to the point where my wife no longer serves a carb with dinner. As for protein, dunno. I've never looked at it as a source of gas, but my gut is 67 and has definitely changed over the last 10 years.

The smell of the protein farts comes from the sulfur in the amino acids. Search for "sulfur gas."

The gas by itself -- its volume that causes bloating and flatulence does not come from protein but possibly from:
- Lactose or polyols used as sweeteners in protein powder/shakes
- Soluble fiber in oats, barley, beans/peas and some fruits

Insoluble fiber in flax seed and whole grains (morning cereals, whole-grain bread) should not cause gas.

Protein farts stink, I can't find anything funny about that.

If you "start to eat healthier" and you think this means a lot of legumes and fruits, of course you'll have a lot of gas.

When I started to eat what I believed it was good to me, I had no gas. But I stopped eating beans and apples.
