Ever heard of Safari? The IE equivalent of Mac OS X, but better, much much better. The pop-up blocker's amazingly good.

FireFox has ForecastFox, don't tell me they got an operah version too. Operah has a boat load of features, but I don't need them. Operah has a freaking ad banner, I don't wanna pay or bother hacking it. FireFox suits me just find and pages load just fast enough.

Ps. Old benchmark.

Very CPU dependant.. Don't really think it matters on the browser.

Firefox Celeron 2.2 = 19.1

Firefox Athlon 1.33 = 12.2

IE Athlon 1.33 = 11.1

I tweaked a few settings. Got 7.5 sec. Is Opera 8 still in beta?

firefox popup blocker worked as designed.

it's not about the speed, it's the security ( and the fact that it is not M$'$ virus errrr. browser)

Centrino 1.8GHz, IE6 = 11.42sec

But I also had MSN, Windows Media Player, Outlook, MS Word, Anandtech & a VNC session runnning. :)

9.8sec without any of it.

Well, for starters, it's an oc'ed athlon - p-rated speed should be something like 3.0-3.1
Also, it's 2k not xp, which is bloated anyway, I have few running processes and services, and I have stripped out as much MS IE related bloatware as possible using n-lite.

i was browsing on a Linux machine the other day and i noticed that everything seemed a lot faster than any browser on a Windows machine (and i don't remember which browser was on the linux machine).

is it possible that OS can make a difference as well?
