Proof that graphics don't make the game

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Just got it today!

Ugly as hell, yet in the hall of fame of best games ever.
SLI is useless once again!!!

i totally agree. i think doom and doom2 and maybe half life 1 are the greatest games ever made. in doom, the graphics are so bad, its almost hard to tell the difference between the bad guys, and the walls they're standing in front of. but, i still havent found a game, in quite a few years, that is better than it. especially since you can get the game for free, and the computer you can use to play it on is also free 🙂 like my brother's old Pentium 233MHz MMX system.

I think thats what made Doom so good because you spent most of your time trying to figure out what you were looking or aiming at.

I disagree. The graphics are so bad in SA that they are actually distracting.

Agreed, the graphics are horrendous. It is a fun game though, for a while. Replayability is almost nil because you get sick of it the first time around. But hey, it sells a sh!tload of copies.

GTA is horrible, uses gimmicks and works only on the 15-25 age group with males who think its absolutely hilarious because you can pick up prostitutes etc. Its just plain lame

Obviously the fun of the GTA series is in the eye of the beholder. Amongst the gaming community, I think it's safe to say that people who think it's stupid are in the minority, but that's neither here nor there.

Put me in the camp of people who are actually distracted by the graphics. Don't get me wrong, I love the game. But I'm also hoping desperately that someone's going to release an improved textures mod.

i agree i saw the graphics and i new it was automatically worse than vice city. it looked like a cartoon the motorcyles are slower now arent they? o ya that is some good cheats for taht game funny super punch hit the person once and they fly 50ft away and die.

hey, graphics are honestly just nice to have. As long as I can discern the objects on the playing field. I think some game makers are putting too much into their graphics and not enough into the gameplay, especially multiplayer. Look at Doom3 and Farcry...yawn. I'm still playing COD and UO over everything else, and it's likely to stay that way until COD2 or if I decide to pick up BF2.

Hell, last month I even downloaded a sega emulator and started playing the Sonic series again...so much fun 😀

Yep, me too. Maybe 5 years ago on my ti500 i would have thought, "not bad." But after HL2, SC:CT, DIII, etc GTA:SA looks horrendous.

Also, i think it is TOO BIG for the mode of transit. I have only just gained access to san francisco and im finding that i drive way too much.

I miss the days when 2D games were the norm - excellent 2D graphics are great, much better than crappy 3D. Original Grand Theft Auto anyone?

Gameplay is MUCH more important than graphics. Period.
I'm a big fan of the old-er school games, anyways (Worms World Party... Diablo II, etc..)
I mean, Half-life has terrible graphics, compared to some new-er titles, but I'd still much rather play HL or UT than Splinter Cell, or Halo.
(Personally, I couldn't stand halo, and never quite figured out what was so 'revolutionary' about it). In my book, Unreal Tournament and Counter-Strike are still THE BEST online FPS you can get. Or maybe that's just me, remembering those awesome LAN-parties we had every week...

Edit: dangit.. now I'm searching for my UT CD. Thanks alot. *sarcasm*
