My first boot I heard the computer beep, after a few moments I turned on the monitor to see primary and secondary drive is nothin in it (i think it was what it said) I tried typin ctrl+s for setup and ctrl+c for raid utilaty but it looked like it wasnt takin in what the keyboard was doing or something else, so I turned the compuiter off using the switch at the back and turned it back on, now nothing is happening.. all I get is monitor status on the screen.

All fans are running, and all led lights are on including the cdrw one. I've made everything was securely pushed in before booting.

What can I do here? I'm a little clueless since this is my first time.

Setup is:
[MOBO] Gigabyte 8SQ800 Ultra
[CPU] Intel P4 2.4bGhz *533FSB* (OEM)
[HSF] CoolerMaster P4
[RAM] Corsair 512MB DDR 3200 LLPT

Sorry to hear of all the troubles.
The first thing to do is take EVERYTHING out except:
1 stick of ram
processor w/HS/Fan
video card
Now see if you get a POST beep.
If you DO get a POST start putting the pieces together one at a time until you find out what part is giving you the trouble.

If no POST try swapping the ram stick and try again. If you get a post with one stick of ram but not the other then you know where the problem is.

Still no POST is hard to guess at what the problem might be without having a few spare parts around.
If you happen to have a spare power supply (out of another system) try that next.
Still no POST you at least have it narrowed down to either the motherboard or processor.
I can't help past that unless you happen to have a spare processor to try.

I took out everything you said, tried it.. no beep, still the same.

So I took out the ram and put in the other, it beeped.

Okay, it is showing the same screen as before (this is what I see now):
MegaRaid BIOS V1.2 F/W Ver xxx
Copyright 2002 ITE, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Please wait for IDE scan..

Press <Ctrl-G> to enter Setup Utility or
Press <ESC> to continue booting...
xxil 311a SATARaid Controller BIOS Version 4.1

Press <Ctrl+S> or F4 to enter RAID utility
It isnt reconginsing anything I push... should I try a different keyboard or whats the problem here?

Not yet, was told to take everything out. This happened the first time and when I turned off the computer I couldnt get back on (had to swap ram to get this back again). So im scared incase it does the samething, then Im screwed with no ram.

Should I turn it off and risk it again or what exactly should I be doing?

One thing that is very supicious, is that after changing memory, at least it booted. I would continue with NO drives hooked up, and a regular PS2 keyboard, and try different memory, until you can get into bios. Once done, then you can move forward.

Yes, turn it OFF, then plug in the PS2 keyboard, then turn it on, and see if it boots and you can get into bios. THEN when sucessful, add the other components.

OK, I just noticed you have a 533fsb cpu with what appears to be a 800 mhz fsb motherboard. That could be a problem. Intel experts ??? I have AMD stuff, so this is just a guess. Are there any jumpers on the motherboard ? Can you get it manually to 133 or 166 (or whatever is needed for 533) ?

I have a SINXP 1394 which is basically the same board and it doesn't have jumpers
for FSB setting.

Turn off computer and unplug power supply, remove Cmos battery for 30 seconds or so
to reset cmos. Reinstall battery put the ram that it booted with before in and try to boot
with a know good PS2 keyboard.

sorry for asking a stupid question... but how do i change jumper settings?

I know its possible cause in the trouble shooter it says that make sure all jumper settings are correct, but no where in the manual does it give a guide on how its done.

btw, im near sure this mobo is 533fsb
- Socket 478 for Intel® new 0.13 micron-process Pentium® 4 processor
- 533/400 MHz FSB.
better to down grade i guess, but as i say not too sure how this is done, any help on this?

thanks for the help so far, feeling a bit sick of this atm

You should see a silver metal clip on one side, (its on the right side on my board)
just move it away from battery with a small screw driver and battery should fall out.
To replace put battery in away from clip first and snap in.

Right, I took everything out, and put back the cpu/hsf, psu, video card, ram. Still the same thing, all fans spin, power light on, monitor does not turn on, and cannot turn power off apart from switching it off from psu.

Can anyone give me any light on this?
please!

when you say you took everything out, do you mean MB out of the case? start from square one?

Here is my suggestion: Disconnect PSU from outlet, with MB out of the case, install CPU/HSF don't forget thermal compound and fan connection, reinstall MB into case looking closely that MB is not shorting to the case anywhere, with psu unplugged plug in all MB connectors from PSU, Check manual for correct wiring for pwr switch, plug psu back in and hit pwr button, you should here some beeps indicating no memory and CPU fan should be running. (the manual should have beep code explanations) If you here the beeps, power off with pwr switch and install memory 1 stick at a time untill memory beeps quit, power off and install vid card making sure to plug in special connector, and that vid card is seated properly (if you can see any part of the gold fingers the card isn't seated all the way) pwr on again to see if vid card is working, if ok so far, pwr off and connect keyboard and mouse, pwr on, tapping delete key try to get into bios, if you get into bios set to failsafe and save and exit, pwr down and connect floppy, cdrom and hard drive,(make sure jumpers on cdrom and hard drive are set properly, master or slave) PWR on :D

Okay, just done that.

Got to the part where I turn on without ram, resulted in no beeps.

Stuck in ram, again, no beeps.

:(

What does that mean?

It sounds like you need to RMA that board!!!

Did you get power switch to work. BTW

Ya mean the F_PANEL pins correctly fitted? If so, yea, must have reinstalled those like 10 times, but when you turn on the only way to turn off is through the psu switch.

The motherboard seems like it is still running, hsf is spinning, case fan is spinning, ram led is on, power led is on.. wouldn't they be not working if the motherboard had died? I'm just wondering..

The funny thing is that I bought my motherboard a while back, about 3 months ago (stupid thing to do I know), but I emailed them requesting a RMA replacement, so hopefully they do get back to me with good news tomorrow morning.
