Problems in NEC LCD 1810

Configuration: Dell Optiplex GX024 with P4-1.5GHz, NEC Multisync LCD 1810. I am using the d-sub connector. This NEC has a beautiful display but I have the following problems:

1. The video card in the Dell is ATI Rage 128 Pro Ultra GL AGP (16 MB) . No matter what resolution and color quality I choose, the letters of the screen is a bit frizzy. Same thing even when I down-configured it to 16-bit color.

2. Furthermore, I tried to adjust the monitor and although I can find the adjustment on horizontal size, I cannot find the adjustment on vertical size. I now have about 0.5 inch of blank on both top and bottom of the screen.

At first I thought the culprit was the sub-par video card (only 16 MB), then I connected a LG-915FT+ CRT to it and it worked fine.

What's your res set to? I think 1280x1024 is native for that screen, and if you have it set to 1280x960, it will look screwed up.

What is this native resolution? Although I have some experience setting up CRT, this is the first LCD I have to configure.

How about the vertical size? I can adjust the horizontal size and I just cannot find where to adjust its vertical size.

I can't tell you much about LCDs, since the only ones I've had to deal with were 1810s. I don't think you'll find a vertical size adjustment.

Native resolution just means what the monitor is intended to run at. Look here. Hope that helps.

Thanks. The white paper clearly explains native resolution and this is probably why the NEC LCD behaves this way..

With lower-grade video cards, you will likely find screen artifacts if you attempt to use the NEC LCD (or any other LCD) at its "native resolution." I recently tried my new LCD1700V on my sis' old K6III rig and it would only do up to 600x800 without revealing distortion. Diminish the resolution until you find a setting that is clear and stable [that's my .02].
