I could certainly do that. I was just curious as to what might work off of a key.

Also, doesn't AIM Express not allow you set away and that sort of thing? I sometimes need to set myself away (since I'm in a meeting or whatever), so that functionality is desired as well.

Trillian works as does Portable Firefox. I'm in the same boat despite working in the company's IT dept., so I've been working up a spare key with what I need. Now if only I could only get Quicktime put back.

I'm using Trillian now, so that would be great. How often does it go to disk? I'm unable to tell on the laptop I'm using. Virtual memory gets hit so often on my machine that I can't tell what's accessing the disk at what time. I'd like to avoid going to disk a ton, since the USB key I have gets surprisingly warm with use.

AIM 4.4 alpha would work, too, but I don't know how secure it'd be.

Ideally, I'd like to run something that does not touch the disk often (perhaps once on load and once on shutdown). The size of the program isn't too big of an issue.

Note that I don't care about all the bells and whistles of most IM clients (sounds, etc). I just want a reliable chat client that works with AIM so I can skirt these software restrictions I'm facing.

Suggestions?

You are absolutely right. I'll refrain from grabbing an IM client and see what I can do to grab the approved AIM copy. My mistake...
