pro2a users near extinction

Just wanted to start a thread for all those pro 2a users.
where are you guys?? did you all return your mobos and jumped on the 266 fsb bandwagon?
I would have personally returned this for the turbo but it is currently 2 months old (sigh).

How much luck are you guys having increasing the fsb on this board?
I personally couldnt get my 1 ghz TBird over 105 fsb even with multiplier all the way down to 7. (painted my L1 and L7).

I am blaming the board (its never overclockers fault) for this/
my next step is physically cut and paint my L6,L3,L4 to give me a cpu multiplier of 6x. read somewhere that this board at initial post for a fraction of a second uses the cpu multiplier not the one from the bios causing failure to post.

over all board has been good to me still a few quirks like agp sharing usb, i still havent been able to figure out why my game port doesnt work.

Just wanted to know if there are still any pro2a users out there, maybe we should start a group like aa or something. Orange delta I think quit on his web page may have bought a turbo like the rest of the world.

Let me know if you guys are still out there. I am eager to know your success stories. Are you guys still hoping the pro2a is actually a turbo in disguise? are you like me and hope that a miracle bios will materialize and cure this board of all its quirks and prove to the world that this is a good stable overclocking board ( everybody thought so 2 months ago.

share your success stories please.

pretty sure everyone that did the homework knew the board wouldn't do much over 110 on average.
My pro2A has been great from the get go. In fact I'm looking for another one.

Hey, I'm a Pro2 owner (no "A")...people like me are even more rare. :) Anyway, if my hardware stays "healthy" I'll keep my board till September.

Still got one.... after I RMA'd the first one (Winflash 'Verify Error') the new board has a metal socket 462 leaver made by AMP. Much harder to open and close the socket then the plastic leaver... Why did MSI change this? Everything else is good though...

Im running an athlon 850 on it, I've used various settings, but have most success at (9.5*106) and 10*100

Still there with my Pro 2. I have it at 103 * 8.5 ...may have to drop back ...as when I have rebooted before..it would not come back up without upping the voltage (@ 1.80 now).

I may try to bring it to 110 * 8 ...and try that, but I have been a bit concerned about running the PCI at over 36.

Glad to know pro 2a users still exist.
reading our numbers though seems nobody has been able to go over 110 fsb.

any body tried the L6 ,L3,L4 paint job to lower cpu multiplier? or should I even bother or just call it quits and accept the fact that this really wont do anything above 110fsb?

I bought mine back in early december. I have a t-bird 850 on it and haven't o/c or anything because I bought it for one reason only: stability. I got tired of wrestling with my old c566@850/905mhz on my BF6...and I actually started using my computer for a lot of schoolwork so I couldn't afford to have any downtime. I like the board....cheap and stable. I would jump on the new 266fsb bandwagon but this seems plenty fast for me right now....so I'll wait until like end of summer or something to upgrade.

I have a Pro2a with a Duron 700@963 (107 x 9). Can't get a multiplier over 9 to POST. I was able to get the FSB up to ~109 but as someone else mentioned, I was NOT expecting to go beyond ~110 anyway. Currently using the OC'ers BIOS (1.9) on it and was happy to get the 1.85V Vcore setting + 4-way interleaving ("built-in" I assume, since there's no setting for it and others have said it "automatically" enables it).

Still here. Mine runs great with no OC. The other systems I've built with that mobo are running great too.

The K7tPro2a is a great board. Very solid, very cheap, though very tempermental when it comes to OC'ing. I've just finally been able to get my 7-fiddy duron to 901mhz, and I don't think it's going much higher anytime soon (won't boot on anything but 7.5 and 8, anything above either won't post or posts at -300mhz from the intended mult.) The board works like a charm at default values, great for the OEM channel I'd bet.

spoof you have to make sure you enable spd in bios to enable 4 way interleave, bumps up memory a bit.

any body figure out how to stop usb from sharing IRQ with AGP card, system is running fine but its kind of irritating.

any of you guys have problems enabling game port?

try the overclocker bios it gave me a little memory boost, you might have to do the "/nbl" switch to get out of the 2.4

congratulations hitting 115 any special tricks to hit this? (prayers or virginal offering)

no luck with my TBIRD 1ghz
fsb 100mhz x 10.5 good
fsb 100mhz x 11 no post
fsb 100mhz x 7 good
fsb 100-105 x 7 good
fsb 105 x 7.5-12 no post

really envios of people able to get there TBIRD 1ghz to 1100 to 1200 or 133 fsb x 7.

I should have saved money and got a 600 or 700 duron and clocked it to 1ghz heard they are pretty good performers.

Hey Dicktin', i've got AS between my Chipset and heatsink... no fan still though. Can post with FSB of 120 but that'll quickly lock up. No special tricks, except using High quality Crucial CL2 Pc133 Ram and AS on the chipset. My AIW Radeon is now clock at 190 Mhz thx to the new overclocker utility. CTF Quake3 is smoother than a baby's behind! Peace out.

I don't really think we're any more extinct than others. I'd say the Pro-2a's are pretty stable and I like mine. Not extremely overclocked and still experimenting. It's an 800 t-bird at 918 (9.0 x 102) but it's rock stable. I've tried 9.5 at 102 - won't post. But haven't adjusted anymore. I like em. Just got an Iwillkk266 and still waiting for a 1.2gt-bird to arrive. That one I WILL overdo (no pun intended).

wow 2 pages worth of pro 2a stuff

I guess we do exist

also maybe its such a stable board nobody talks about it anymore, I am still hoping for a miraculous bios to get my 1ghz bird to 133fsb. I am really fixated with this fsb shxt, I guess I am suffering from the overclockers disease of always wanting to go higher and faster, I have got to stand back and realize I already have a 1ghz bird on a stable board and should just call it quits and start playing serious games.

you guys tried the via 4 and 1 drivers 4.29 yet?

Love my Pro2a, solid as a rock. Might even try an overclock now after almost 3months, bought it for stability, never has let me down. Been running the 4.29's for a while now..no problems.
