You're cutting it wrong...

Whether you butcher it (my way) or make a pretty flower petal (that way), it tastes the same on the way down.

When I was in South East Asia, I love the mangos over there. So sweet and nice, not like the ones the American stores.

You can get one large one or two small ones for about $1 USD already trim and cut and ready to eat. Sweet mango with spicy salt/red pepper = yummy.

What can you buy for about $1 USD or so in Asia = http://bohemiantraveler.com/2012/06/what-a-dollar-twenty-five-gets-you-in-vietnam/

The article is a few years old, the prices are a bit higher now.

Don't care, don't eat them. I'll stick to white boy 'murican fruit like Nectarines, peaches, apples, cherries and oranges. If I must go tropical it's pineapple or 'naners.

Indian/South Asian grocery stores have the best mangoes. Usually still Mexican grown, but for some reason better than the supermarket ones. At least around here that's true.

I don't like mangos in this country because getting a good one is like winning $10 on a scratcher lottery ticket. More often than not I end up wasting my money.

Not sure everyone is speaking the same language in this thread. When you say "Asian" mangoes or best is "from India," etc., are you referring to where a particular mango is grown or to a particular variety that originated in a particular region?

I ask because most of the top tier mango varieties are grown throughout the world in subtropical climates. In my yard I'm growing Nam Doc Mai and Mallika, both of which are top tier Indian mangoes. There are people in Thailand growing Lemon Zest (a top tier that originated in Florida).

There are only a handful of varieties that I know of that don't grow well/taste the same when grown outside their home country/region.

Not to mention that many of the top mangoes are crosses between two varieties or seedlings of popular varieties, so it's difficult to say that any particular country/region produces the best mangoes.

Both - varieties grown in a specific region. If you're growing varieties that come from India with soil comparable to India orchards them your mangoes will be just as good.

Ya I agree with that. There is a famous region in India (maybe Pakistan) where one of the most sought after Indian mangoes is grown. It grows outside that region but does not taste the same. Doesn't really grow in Florida. There are Caribbean mangoes that are similar - one set of characteristics there, different taste here.
