PRO TIP: The best mangos come from Asia, not mexico.

PRO TIP: Shorty is a moron... so says the early season mangoes and peaches that I picked today. Come June/July when we get Lemon Zest, Sweet Tart, and other top tier mangoes... even better. I'm ok with my 15 mango trees in the yard.

In actuality Asian mangoes are great... if you're in Asia. Any international mango bought in the USA has been picked immature and subjected either to a hot water bath or irradiation to kill bugs/disease (and also flavor).

^ what he said.

also, i had a mango smoothie (before it was cool) in Brasil and it was just amazing.

i had it in 1986. and i still remember it. it was THAT amazing.

Honestly if I go to the grocery store and their produce is subpar, I just buy something else, and don't bother going to another store.

Jeeebus seems to have this one covered.

As much as my wifes loves the we should have a few in our back yard, there is room from a few that were old and died.

Have a Tangerine I need to take down.

What is the best mango you've ever tried? Mine are the small yellow champagne mangos in the summer. I bought a few the other day & they are about 90% there, not quite as sugar-sweet as I like them yet tho...

Lemon zest or sweet tart. The lemon zest is so sweet and citrusy that eating more than 1 is difficult. My wife prefers sweet tart but only by a little. Lemon zest is dangerously close to being called greatest of all time by mango connoisseurs.

they come from Florida.
Cheap.
No good.

I see you've decided to double down on stupid. Costco mangoes are imported from South America. Just about any mango you buy in the store comes from overseas and is totally bland due to being picked immature and then irradiated. Not to mention the varieties that are commercially available usually suck.

So, do you ship? 😀

So, do you ship? 😀

I have a family of ravenous mango eaters. No shipping here. There are a handful of farms that do ship, though I'm not sure if lemon zest is among the varieties that are shipped. Not sure where you live, but as long as it's not California, Arizona, or Hawaii you should be ok for people to ship you mangoes.

CT. We have crap selection. We get champagnes (Ataulfos) from Mexico (which are amazing, but only available for a few months) & Tommy Atkins. That's it. The Atkins can be good in their prime, but they get stringy fast D:

I mourn for you. Remind me in early July and I'll see if there's any way I can ship some lemon zest and sweet tart to you. I never really liked mangoes as a kid because all I had was the crap they sell in the grocery stores. There's really no comparison to fresh picked. And ya, the fiber in Tommy Atkins is pretty bad.

Nope, best mango is from India. There are several varieties with a full spectrum of fragrance and flavor that you just don't experience anywhere else.

Not sure everyone is speaking the same language in this thread. When you say "Asian" mangoes or best is "from India," etc., are you referring to where a particular mango is grown or to a particular variety that originated in a particular region?

I ask because most of the top tier mango varieties are grown throughout the world in subtropical climates. In my yard I'm growing Nam Doc Mai and Mallika, both of which are top tier Indian mangoes. There are people in Thailand growing Lemon Zest (a top tier that originated in Florida).

There are only a handful of varieties that I know of that don't grow well/taste the same when grown outside their home country/region.

Not to mention that many of the top mangoes are crosses between two varieties or seedlings of popular varieties, so it's difficult to say that any particular country/region produces the best mangoes.
