Epson Photo r200 or r300

I just bought the r200, not bad, though I've only had it a few days so I havent done much with it.

Dont mean to point out the obvious, but just in case you didnt realise (i didnt when i first looked into it) you need to get either a cd labeller, or buy prelabelled cds. as far as i know, you just cant print directly on to the cd as it normally is.

Epson has a model coming out soon, it has launched in the UK, but im not sure about the states yet. The R200 Direct print to CD/DVD media. Epson is said to be king of the protective layer that is applied on top of the ink ( i guess its a part of the ink itself) and the photos are claimed to last like 10x longer than other inkjets.

there is a really cool printer that can burn cds or dvds in volume, and print directly to them. it is a little pricey but i think it is kinda cool.

Have you messed with the printer much since you bought it man? I'm in the US, and it appears the Epson r200 & 300 are my only options. I want to print on CD's, but I don't want an ink hog like my Stylus was where it'll cost me 2 bucks worth of ink to print 1 cd 🙂

I googled and the only review I found on it was pgmag.com, who I don't really trust much.

I saw nothing about the printer speed, and how the cd's actually look printed out. if you have any insight I'd appericate it, 'for I go and blow $100 bucks on it.

what are you guys finding the average cost for printable CDRs is? I can't seem to find anything that can compete with the usual "free after rebate" normal CDRs...

i have the Epson R300 and it even comes with a "paper adapter". Basically it's a piece of plastic that will hold down the CD while it prints, awesome printer. I printed a 4 x 6 of a 4 x 6 picture I had, and it looks BETTER than th eoriginal.

I think I need to just get the r200, it's cheap and looks killer, same as the 300 and I don't need the memory card slot or LCD

I have printed a few cds on the r200 and it's definately the way to go.

You can buy a 30 pack of Memorex cd that you can print on for around $13

I will die before I buy more Memorex CD's, had too many problems with them. Store wise, I'd rather buy Imations, if I don't order them off the net. Do you know what disc Memorex uses on their printable cd's? I don't like their regular media, but this stuff might be better.

Staples has Imation 50 pack printable cd's for 26 bucks.

R300/R200

The review is for the R300M, but as someone already mentioned, the only difference between the three is the LCD (R300M), and memory card reader (R300/M only), all three use the same ink and can do CD's.

Bought the r200 a few days ago, the epson cd printing program that comes with it works, but it's pretty limited. Downloaded the SureThing trial and it's really nice. I was very impressed at how the first cd I printed with it turned out. No calibration needed at all. People have been pretty impressed at what I showed them. And that was just with a few minutes using a template. The cd's also seem to burn well, I've done about 25 so far, and the ink doesn't smudge if I burn after I print the label. Only wasted 4 disc's figuring out what looks best. Best $100 bucks I've spent in awhile 🙂

This week Best Buy has the 30pack Memorex Printable CD's for 11 bucks, which is a decent deal. This is the only printable media I've seen in B&M stores. I wish I could figure out a per cd printing cost including ink tho. $15 is the nomal price, still not too bad, I dislike Memorex media, but I don't see any other non On-Line options yet.

The printer comes with 6 full ink carts, not sure if all makers do this now, but I remember some older HP's use to come with the starter inks.

anyone have suggestions on protecting the printed image? even after 3 days of drying a bit of water and the image bled badly. I know cd media is touchy to anything that changes the weight of it, so I'm trying to think of some sort of finish I can put on the top to keep it from running when it gets wet.

THere are special "fixers" at art supply stores that fix an image I think people use them for chalk or charcol, this will keep the image from being wetness prone. I believe some cheapo hairspry will also do the trick.

I am debating purchasing an r200 for printing dvds and for printing images. have people had good luck with using something and sticking lables on their dvds? I want to go the whole 9 yards with my dvd collection.

right now i have been using a dymo and printing labels for all my dvds, i hope to get an r200 and print all myy discs and do jackets and stuff to make them as close to the real thing as possible.

some people suggested getting a canon printer of the epson r200/300 i still like the r200... hmmm decisions...

I have read 2 places that it's bad to use the neto type lables on DVD's, it said something about it makes them spin off a little. Don't know how valid this is, but both articles I read said it was fine with CD's but not DVD's.

I got my R200 Friday, and have printed about 40 disc's already, so easy, and looks great. The r200 is kinda slow as a printer, a 4x6 took almost 2 minutes where the same pic on my Canon i550 took about 45 seconds. But the cd printing makes it worth the 99 bucks. The r200 is USB 1.1 the 300 is 2, not sure if that makes a speed difference, but that is a difference.
