We moved up one place. 🙂 But we could have moved up more with a little more work. But we did have a good number of participants - this race went to 11! 😉

@Ken g6, thanks for the stats. Yep, we missed some low hanging fruit here. Well, I at least think I did my best; with VRAM overclocking and all (after post #346), and even some sneakernet transfers around a distrustful firewall.

Sorry, I forgot to employ the 1080's again before going to bed, but arose early enough to re-engage them for the last 2.5 hours. :/

I tripped a breaker twice during the race. Apparently running all my CPUs at 100% (WCG) + all GPUs at 100% (PG) was a bit much. 😱

Turns out that last Ryzen 1700 rig I added to a living room socket shares the same breaker as my computer room. I didn't notice the first time because of the UPS. That problem has since been corrected.

Thanks for the stats during the race Ken g6. 😎
Got started late on this and ran 15's on my lesser gpu's for half a day when the 16's were better suited for them. Wouldn't have made up the difference we needed though.😳

Apologies for the intrusion, maybe I need to ask this elsewhere in your forums. BUT........ Since it deals with DC/BOINC, How is this CPU performing overall for number crunching? AMD in general on the CPU side for BOINC, I am generally interested in a Threadripper. I would assume anything (read: ability, performance) pertaining to Ryzen would transfer over to TR. GPU's I have covered..CPU not my strong point in BOINC.

No intrusion at all, and howdy to you too! 😛

Don't worry, our threads get all sorts of side tracked most of the time. 🙂

Common occurrence everywhere I believe 😉

If I had thought years and yearssssssssssssss ago that using this user name would be ummmmmm DUH? I would have left it at "Howdy" < Nickname from school many many moons ago, NO I DO NOT LOOK LIKE Howdy Doody, No red hair or freckles!!! has to do with my last name.

anywayyyyyyyyyy Thanks 10

R7 1700 (8c/16t) is very efficient with its sustained 3.2GHz all cores at low power usage (~65W TDP).
R7 1800X (8c/16t) gives better points per hour at 3.7GHz all cores at higher power usage (~95W TDP).
TR 1950X (16c/32t) at bone stock settings enforcing 180W TDP will cap out at ~3.4GHz all cores if using high performance memory (due to SOC eating up some of the TDP). Recommend manual OC using 1.1V or 1.2V instead as that lifts TDP limits.

My WCG average points per hour for this race is around 227 across Ryzen rigs on Windows 10 for MCM and MIP. All CPUs at stock settings. I have not tested Linux performance (should be better).

I'd like to see some times per CPU IEC, if you don't mind. This is not an upgrade year for me................I hope. lol Temptation is there though.

If you are strong and can pass up the upcoming Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales...........then no it's not an upgrade year..........BUT you must be strong, lots of good deals out there even before these coming days. It has been tough to hold off just waiting on these sales..............Oh, I'm just "browsing" anyway 🙂

So, who's interested in finishing out the year with PrimeGrid? 😀 With the Brony race on, I'm not even sure how much I want to put into it. :pensive:

I am undecided myself currently. During the first few days of the F@H race, when Brony@Home's and our production appeared to be very close, it seemed obvious to me that I would keep folding.

But now it's all less clear. If the temple.edu credits problem...
...persists, we are ~25 M points ahead of B@H, and are out-producing them by ~3.3 M p/d.
...gets fixed, my guess is that we are 50...120 M points behind B@H, and that they are out-producing us by 5...10 M p/d.

We are just 1.5 weeks into the F@H race now though, 7 more weeks to go.

Edit,
my guess is based on the assumption that the temple.edu situation started on November 22. It could have started already early in November, which would mean that I am actually underestimating Nekolepsy's real production, and additionally that the credits update to come would include a huge number of credits earned by Nekolepsy during November.

Oh, good, the firewall problem got resolved? HOLY Shhhhhh did you say a 100+ M point hit!? Well, looks like @tiwake is going to have to give away a fresh prize, for Brony going over 50M ppd. 🙂 Our victory will be so much sweeter (once we catch back up.) 🙄

Uhm.....I think I am now forced to stay on Folding...

Ok so I am going to only put a couple of crappy gpus on this. Only getting 15k a day folding from each so should not be noticed.

About half a day until the start? I've set 3 280X's on it, perhaps a 4th one soon, for about 900 inefficient watts of GPU compute. Time to open the window(s) and the door to the garage. :/ All Nvidia's will continue Folding.

How would a 7970 do ? I think I promised crashtech that I would help where that card came in.

If so let me know the BOINC project name to join

I added primegrid project since thats the thread title, and made sure that GPU always is highlighted, and 20# CPU max, but I have no tasks. I said read local prefs and config files, and did an update. What gives ?

I believe PG winter solstice challenge specifies PPS-Sieve subproject for the race and unlike Genefer 21 & 22, PPS-Sieve doesn't heavily favour AMD (DP) cards. I hope Ken can clarify this.

That card should be about half a 1080 Mark, so, although not a favored card, not bad either. PPS-Sieve is the project you want. On the PrimeGrid.com/account/preferences page, make sure you have a checkmark in "Use AMD GPU" and then scroll down the project list, deselecting everything except PPS-Sieve/Open-CL under the AMD column (you'll have 3 choices: cpu-intel-amd)
