I turned off hyperthreading part way through the race. They turn around twice as fast.

As did I. I forgot to turn it off before. I let the first batch almost complete before I switched HT off.

Maybe a stupid question as I quite honestly haven't been keeping up with technology... Would changing my i5s to run as a single processor at this point rather than 4 processors help push one of two of my in process WUs through? Meaning, would it process one WU 4 times faster?

No. (normally, unless one task uses all of your ram and there is lots of writing to disk)


Turning off HT can help, but i5 doesn't have HT.
I think if we only run four tasks on i7 with HT on it is about the same as turning HT off.

Certainly not that much. A Core 2 Quad can get a small boost (10-15%) on one or two WUs, at the expense of doing any work on any others, by not running all four cores at once. That's from RAM bandwidth. If there's any effect at all on modern i5s, it's smaller than that.

Point taken. 😉 I'll try next time. But I'm not always around to do it, unfortunately. The good news is it looks like I might get 2 more in. I have 1 WU scheduled to finish 10-15 mins before the deadline, and 1 WU scheduled to finish a little over 15 mins after. Hoping I might be able to squeeze that second one in with a little luck.
