Welcome to the PrimeGrid Leonids Challenge. Like a Leonid meteor, this challenge will appear suddenly, burn brightly, and be gone before you know it. 😱 So don't miss it!

What you need:
  • One or more fast x86 processors. (Even slow ones will do!)
  • Windows, Linux, or MacOS 10.4+. (Linux or MacOS 10.5+ may be up to 20% faster, this time only.)
  • BOINC, attached to PrimeGrid (http://www.primegrid.com/).
  • Your PrimeGrid Preferences with only "Sophie Germain Prime Search (LLR)" selected in the Projects section.

What won't help (but won't hurt either):
  • A 64-bit OS.
  • A large amount of RAM.
  • Any video cards.

This challenge starts November 17 at 18:00 UTC, and runs for only 24 hours. Work not downloaded and uploaded within the challenge will not be counted. Should you not be able to be in front of one or more computers at that time, just set their queue level very low (0.01 days). This also makes it more likely that you will be a prime finder rather than a double-checker.

Welcome and good luck to all! 🙂

If I setup my events in Windows task manager correctly, both my boxes should switch from Einstein to Primegrid 1 minute after the start of the challenge.

Fingers crossed. 🙂

You all may find this useful to avoid that last minute flush of WUs. On linux, I put this file in the BOINC folder which is in my home directory.

file name: cc_config.xml

contents:

<cc_config>
<options>
<report_results_immediately>1</report_results_immediately>
</options>
</cc_config>

PrimeGrid website is down?

I'm getting this on Chrome/linux:

Warning: mysql_pconnect() [function.mysql-pconnect]: Host 'www.primegrid.com' is blocked because of many connection errors; unblock with 'mysqladmin flush-hosts' in /home/boinc/proj/html/inc/db.inc on line 39
Unable to connect to database - please try again later Error: 1129Host 'www.primegrid.com' is blocked because of many connection errors; unblock with 'mysqladmin flush-hosts'

I noticed problems earlier, but it seems to be back now.

One hour until the race starts!

well petrus, ya passed me up, 🙂

Biodoc is running 24 cores, i'm running 18 cores and 24 threads.

it will be intresting to see if the virtual cores will keep up with the real cores.

where the last race was core dependant, I'm intrested to see if speed plays a bigger part than the number of cores/threads per task.

i must be a geek, i think it's fun........LOL

Looks like everything switched over as planned. :awe: Using task manager makes things much easier, if of course, you remember to turn the tasks on. 😱

Well i have been doing some tweeking.

I have both i7's at 4.0 now.

the 920 took removing the side cover and useing a house fan to blow air at it, but it's keeping the temps at an acceptable range.

Took it from 3.4 to 4.0, and wu's went from 17:45 to 15.05 to complete 8 WU's.

or every two hours or less i will gain 8 extra WU's completed by doing this.

The 980X @ 4.0 is taking 15:20 to 15:30 complete 12 WU's

i have not checked the AMD 940 @ 3.0 or the Q9450 @ 3.0 yet for times, but i can't do any more with them anyway. it is what it is for them...🙂

(Edit: The Q9450 is turning WU's over @ 11:30 Per.)

I thought some may like to compair notes on what can be done for the race....🙂

And yes, i'm having a good time....🙂

Go TeAm AnandTech!
