Nope, not a chance. Could human civilizations existed that were more thoughtful, spiritual, logical, insightful? Sure. But more technologically advanced than our current one? Nope, zero chance. Building an infrastructure leaves traces, chemical signatures, earthworks. Nothing we've found suggests that other civilizations mastered advanced metallurgy, organic synthesis, nuclear reactions, oil drilling, mechanical agriculture, or earth moving on the scale we routinely engage in today.
See my first line. Edit: second sentence. You are assuming they proceeded on the same route we do. Potentially there was a resource then that no longer exists? Or even better, society evolved without technological advances? There are societies today that continue to exist without technology...

Even more modern day book burnings, books about book burnings... So much lost that we don't even know what we have lost.
I doubt there's one more advanced than we are now (I assume we're just talking about Earth civilizations). I do think a lot of people don't give much credit to past civilizations though, and instead of giving them credit for the amazing stuff they did, try to explain it with deities and aliens.
And that's the pain of it.
There is evidence that a certain theorem was almost certainly fully understood at one point, and then almost all evidence was wiped in the first fires in Alexandria. Hundreds of years if not thousands may have passed before the same idea was redeveloped by someone else, rediscovered in a way.
We know things that were deemed historically important, large volumes of information, were lost. And then the new records, restored originals, and whatnot, was again lost some time later.
We know it happened. We don't know what we lost. It is quite likely that some information found in certain myths is actually based on, at one time, common knowledge or otherwise rooted in facts.... but now no records exist and stories have been grossly altered and reinterpreted over the generations.
I think that event taught humanity the importance of data parity. And yet, we ignore the greater lessons the idea might suggest.
A couple stories found in the bible are the most intriguing to me. The story of Babel and the idea that humans lived for 10x as long prior to the flood. Biological and societal changes to the extreme.
Who's that?
Why would it have to be in the ocean? For instance, an entire city was discovered in asia that is thought to be the precursor to Russia, but was originally only known about in written history. Many cultures and civilizations have been wiped out and replaced, cities built on cities. Jerusalem used to be Jebus, etc.
Natural or unnatural, or supernatural, causes could potentially destroy much of the evidence. There is so little we actually know about history past a few thousand years ago. The oldest book in the bible is 4000 years old and is more than likely just a moral story without any relevant history, with newer documents talking about events and locations that dated far before this. There is mention of differences in biology and technology, not to mention several widespread massive impacts on society. Some of these ancient events are described by all the cultures that existed then across the world, in what documents we can find. Given what has survived, all we are left with are questions and nothing to go on. The dust we walk on is more than likely history we cannot ever decipher.
I saw some article a few weeks ago on CNN about an Amazonian tribe that hasn't ever been contacted, or even seen until just recently. They've been living their lives completely oblivious that other humans even exist on the planet. They were pictured looking up at this mysterious floating wonder in the sky, probably thinking it's GOD because their brains are so primitive. The helo taking pictures showed them using stick/rock tools.
The tower of babble is required if you want to be able to find your way back to the spawn point.
That is George S. something... greek sounding. He is a leading propronent of the ancient astronaut theory. Google it.

I read that in LotR. Humans used to be stronger and live longer but their bloodlines have become diluted through time.
It's more likely that there was another advanced species that were more advanced than us millions of years ago than humans being more advanced in the, relativity, short time that we've been around. Think of how long it would take to erase the mark humans currently have on the earth. All they would have to do is invent plastics and there would be remains of that.
