I think I have all but decided to go with the 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT as my next car. I won't buy until sometime in 1H 2005, but in preparation, I have already signed up with a popular Subaru message forum.

I still haven't decided on the color yet, but this Legacy in red is HOT!

PIC

Sometime during Labor Day weekend I will head up to the north side of Atlanta and test drive a 5-speed MT version. Can't wait!

I took one of the wagons for a test drive. Definatly a nice car.
If this car would have come out in the 2004 line, I would have bought it instead of my Impreza.

 Awesome man. I had so much fun test driving a GT Limited 5MT sedan. I'm definitely hooked on this car. I like the dark blue myself. Its one thing that bothers me about Subaru; lack of color choices.

Pretty sure I'm going the 2.5GT NL route unless Subaru drops prices on the Limited. I'll think about aftermarket sunroof options later. I still just can't justify spending $3,500-4,000 more for the Limited on features, besides the sunroof, that I don't want or need. As I posted in the Subaru forum:

Leather = don't want it!
8-way power driver's seat = GT NL has 6-way power
4-way power passenger seat = who cares about the passenger?
Dual Digital Climate = GT NL has Single Digital Climate

No. But in the US, the 3.0L H6 is only available at the moment on the Outback. In foreign countries like Germany, the turbos are not offered on Legacy models. They only offer non-turbo 2.0 and 2.5 H4s and the 3.0 H6 in Germany.

What do you guys think about Outback or Forester? I'm considering buying either one.
I need a steady work-horse that would take me skiing to Tahoe in winter, carry bikes in summer, have a good clearance and AWD, but better handling and fuel economy than SUVs. I just can't decide between Outback and Forester.

Actually, the Legacy 3.0R sedan is listed under the Outback on the Subaru site. Lower the sucker and you're all set;)

I'm not looking into a Limited either, that's just what the guy got into when he offered me a test drive. I didn't care what it was except that it was a turbo and a stick.

Good choice. I test drove the Legacy at C&D event and is awesome. It's kind of expensive though compared to the Camry and Accord. Unlike what Subaru wants me to think, they are all in the same category for me although the Legacy is 1000 times sportier. I was thinking of either getting a 2.5 GT NL or a base G35. You should sign up for the Subaru credit card if you are 100% sure you want this car. I think is 5% rebate towards a Subaru like the GM card.

EDIT: legacysti.com is a popular forum for the new legacy too

My parents have a previous-gen Outback H6-3.0 wagon and absolutely love it. I've driven it, and I've gotta say, the engine's smoothness rivals that of my 4-cylinder Accord's.

My mom has a black 2003 legacy GT limited.

Daaaaaaaamn it's nice. We're not talking BMWish, but it's really a sweet car when you get ALL the options with it. 6 disc CD, moonroof, leather, heated seats, soundsystem, tinted windows, etc.

Totally different car;) but yes they're nice. They're niche cars I suppose.

I've heard rumors of a Forester STi model in the future. That car should be a real kick to drive.

There's also a rumor of a Legacy STi. I guess we'll see on both rumors;)
