So, as soon as I get a renter in my house in Texas, I plan on ordering a black base GT with Brembo Brake Package and 3.73's.

With Ford X pricing, plus trade-in and down payment, I'm looking at financing about $20K @ 2.9% for 60 months through Ford Financing.

Hope to install one of these within the next year:

The Ford Racing Supercharger 624hp Kit (M-6066-MGT624D) includes:
— 2.3L twin-screw supercharger assembly
— Intake manifold
— Complete air-to-liquid intercooler system
— Drive belt
— 47 lb./hr., high-impedance fuel injectors (M-9593-LU47)
— Ford Racing ProCal tool with performance calibration
— Produces 624 SAE hp @ 6900 rpm and 536 SAE lb.-ft. @ 4700 rpm, at approximately 9 psi of boost with 93 octane fuel
— MSRP $7,499.00 (black) and $8,099.00 (polished chrome)

Haven't been in a muscle car for about 3 years since selling my '04 GTO, and now that I'm single I'll have quite a bit more disposable income once my house rents.

You really can't go wrong with a 5.0...awesome car from what I've read. I need to get out and test drive one of them...been dying to feel that engine from behind the wheel. I've heard it on the road and it sounds great.

Haha, I remember that thread... I'll be going with the 6-Speed, though I am a bit weary, as there are several complaints of premature wear on the transmission in 1st and 2nd. Curious if it was a problem with early batches or if it's still a persistent issue (as far as I know, the transmission is built in China).

I really hope you're not banking on the rental income to pay for your car.

That said, they are badass cars.

Not the income, but I am burded with 2 mortgages currently, so buying a 2nd car is not feasible until a (solid) renter is in place.

Love me a Mustang. That model is sweet. And black on black is my fav color, when done right. Its what my '68 is. Black paint, and black bullet rims.

Good choice, don't forget to factor in the insurance costs.

Thinking about going to a local dealer for a test drive this weekend. Do they differ a lot on test driving policies? What info will I need to bring/hand out in order to step in one? Not looking to get spammed every day from salesmen.

Outstanding car. It's kind of a shame in some ways that they're so common, but that doesn't make the driving experience any less fun, and will lower costs for maintenance as well as make finding parts easier over time compared to less common vehicles. It's a monster even without forced induction, I have yet to experience a supercharged version of the new 5.0, but it's impossible that it wouldn't be absolutely mind blowing.

I'm also about to buy a new mustang, going to the dealer as soon as my paycheck and tax return come in. A question though - is it still possible to get a 2011 with the options you want? Or have they already finished production of 2011's and are now only taking orders for 2012's? I want to get a GT premium, manual, with electronics package in kona or grabber, and I imagine that configuration may be hard to find.

The only issue you will have is finding it in the color you want. Most of the ones on the lots are going to be premiums with manuals. The only ones I ran across that weren't premiums were the V6 models.

Realize though that if you "order" a car, you are going to have less chances of negotiating a price.
When I got my 2010 GT I wanted a certain color that they didn't have, but in taking one in a different color, I was able to get one off the lot and get the rebates and was able to negotiate a lot off the price. I got mine for a little over $8k off of sticker.

Is there an easy way to search dealer inventories to find one with the options you want? I know you can see the stickers of local dealer's stock on the ford website but that is time consuming to go through them one by one.

Go to the dealers website???
I know around here most of the dealerships are owned by just a few companies, so searching the inventory on one site will actually search all the relates dealerships as well.
It's pointless usually anyways as what shows up is rarely what they will have in stock.

Really if you are going to go buy a car, wait till you have the means to do so before you go looking.

Yoiks! That sucks. Hope Ford gets that straightened out quick.

Black though? Seriously? I had a black car once. They look great when clean, the trouble is even the slightest bit of dust makes it look dirty. I won't even get into the swirl marks or the heat that black paint absorbs.

I wouldn't bother even doing that. Find a dealer you like or is convenient, tell them what you want, and they'll search all dealer inventories until they find what you want and they'll trade for it. My dealer just did it for my Fusion in about 2 hours, it'll be on his lot tomorrow.

I bought a 2011 Mustang GT (silver/black) in October, pretty much fully loaded with the exception of maybe the nav system (Good luck finding a GT with nav. No dealer anywhere in my area had one in inventory). It is a premium GT with the Brembo brake package, 3.73, 6 speed (Brembo package is not offered with auto tran), and rear view camera (love this thing). Anyway, I love it. Great all around car. And the Ford sync is AWESOME! Love it!

As for the supercharger (624hp, 9psi), it's not as simple as it looks. I'd get it tomorrow if Ford would guarantee I wouldn't blow a piston or rod. So to be on the safe side, I'm looking to replace the rods, pistons, and crank with forged parts. However, that ain't cheap, not to mention the engine has to be taken out, and I need someone I can trust to do the work for me.

Another thing to consider is with the Brembo package, you don't get a spare tire, so you'll need to look for another Brembo wheel and tire for your spare (if you are interested in getting a spare).

Overall, LOVE the car! No complaints at all. And the issue you are hearing about the 1st to 2nd gear shift most likely comes from people that aren't aware that it has a 1-4 skip shift so it makes it hard to go into 2nd without reving 1st gear to ~3K. This can be tuned out though.

Oh yeah, and the dealer took $6K off the sticker. Not bad for a newly released 5.0. ;)

If you really want the car to be configured EXACTLY how you want (within allowable possibilities) then just go to your dealer of choice and order it. You'll have to wait for it, but it will be just what you want.

Dealers have a tendency to order their cars with the options they think most people will want. For instance at Volvo and BMW dealers I went to, they would order cars with most of the major packages. In fact I was told flat out that they do not order cars (for the lot) without any options. Sure, such a car is available, but you gotta special order it for yourself. They won't order one to sit on their lot.

My wife ended up ordering her 2011 WRX. Took maybe 8 weeks? That was from time to order (then built in Japan, then sit on a ship to Canada, then by rail to USA, WTF???) until we took delivery of it at the dealer. However, it was the only way to get what she wanted which was a Premium hatchback. I guess because the STI was only available as a hatchback for a while, now seems like everyone wants a sedan and not hatchback, plus people are either buying one of the base models or stepping up to the STI instead of getting the middle Premium.

If I could do it over again, I would have gotten the backup camera as well. The tint on the back window is so dark I can't see out of it at night.

why'd you get rid of your GTO?

probably got 05-06 blues when they came out with the ls2 and better brakes. I know that's why a lot people dump their 04s but don't want to secretly admit it.

j/k of course

WOOOT I got it! Went to the dealer when my tax return came in. They managed to find one exactly how I wanted it, except that it had 19" rims but close enough. They have to drive it in from DC though so I won't get to pick it up till the weekend, but they gave me a loner 2010 GT in the meantime. I think I got a good price too, the MSRP of it fully loaded was 39.5k, with x-plan pricing got it down to 36k, and got a good interest rate and decent trade in value as well.
