I've said for many years now, you have to pay attention to this fucker. You have to watch him, listen to what he says, then you will truly see what he is.

I am utterly disgusted by his speech and what he said. He offended me with just about every single sentence. May fuck be upon him.

Pay attention to this president. This speech just pissed of a sizable chunk of Americans. He even pulled out the "teachers and firefighters angle".
Great post, Spidey.

One has to listen to this fuck, (read: Government) and when Government attacks you, you MUST fight back.

Koodos to the Tea Party Republicans.

Am I the only one who think Boehner looks like a little green leprechaun with that tie?

I can't take him seriously. No serious man wears a bright green fucking tie.

Salvatore Ferragamo and Hermes

Two of the best tie makers on the planet, period. Boehner has great taste in ties.

WOW! All this and no "Post Turtle"?

I don't get what he's on about since no one ever said that a President has to enforce every law all the time. In fact I mentioned he did not.

I do believe the virtue of a President ought to be called into question if he does not enforce a law he doesn't like but then enforces one he does because "it's my Constitutional duty to enforce the laws of the land".

Regardless, that is not saying "This law is unconstitutional and therefore I will violate it".

I think you see the distinction.
Huh? I was correcting senseamp. Obama didn't come in and say "I'm not going to enforce DOMA because I don't like it." The DoJ defended DOMA and lost in the court and chose not to appeal it.

I think that's a big distinction.

If a law violates the Constitution, it's in no way, shape or form his Constitutional duty to enforce it. Just the opposite, it's his duty to NOT enforce it.

Who said it was? Certainly not me.

You can ask for an immediate injunction from the courts if you don't agree with his interpretation. That's how our system of government works.

Since that's not been the case and never has I don't have to agree with it. Our system doesn't allow the President to decide what is Constitutional or not. If the President thinks a law is unconstitutional he can ask the Judicial branch to make a ruling. They and only they decide if a law runs afoul of the Constitution.

"His decision" does not exist. He hasn't the authority to make the final call. He can't say "you can't do this because I'm the President and I think it's unconstitutional".

There are a few lawyers on the board. You aren't going to find one who says the President is the decider of Constitutionality.

I was merely saying to you that I don't get him. I understood your point and wasn't taking issue with it.

It actually wasn't as bad as I expected it to be.....I was on board until he got into his 'fair-share' bit..... then he explained that those at the top need to give up some of their perks "for ordinary americans"...... ah, so those at the top aren't americans.... i see. then he also tried to make a comparison between an elderly lady affording her prescription and a corporate jet owner..... as if it's her RIGHT to take prescription medicine and (s)he is doing something illegal by owning a jet.

but he's right, our current government spends too much and is dysfunctional

To be fair, those at the top are Americans, but they certainly aren't ordinary. In the example Obama cited, she may not have that "right", but we as a society should set our funding priorities more towards the old lady and than Scrooge McDuck. Whatever happened to the American sense of fairness?

So this speech was essentially a campaign speech?

He didn't offer anything new he just said Democrats good, Republicans bad.

Looks like we are no closer to solving the problem now that before he gave his speech...

I think it would be fair if I could tax other people to pay for my debts.

I think we should raise taxes on other people, so we can spend more.

Is it fair that 50% of the country pays nearly no income tax at all?

You want fair then everyone should have to pay something.

Obama didn't say anything new. He just dissed Republicans. But seriously, Republicans are being ridiculous at this point. Reid's plan is more conservative than any plan they've put forward, and yet they still don't endorse it. They're just being jackasses now.

Edit: Did anyone see the "two step plan" laid out in five steps on MSNBC? That was hilarious!

Worse off.

It illustrated how far apart we the people are from our Government, and Obama.

The Tea Party will not give one ounce now, as Obama just spoke to everything that we detest.

How Government, "drives the economy." How without Government, "we're all fucked." etc.

Today's speech couldn't have illustrated clearer, the difference between Man and Government.

I think he was actually trying to help Boehner out. He knows that the tea baggers in congress are petty ideologues, so he positioned himself as demanding a revenue increase. Now Boehner can go back to them and say "see? this plan has no revenue, we we won" and since that is all that matters to them, they will probably go for it.

We'll see if it works...

46% pay no income tax, those that pay nothing at all total 18%.

"The top 10 percent paid 50 percent of all federal taxes in 2001. However, that comes in spite of lower tax rates at the top, not because of it. The reason the most affluent 10 percent pay a greater share of taxes is that they are getting a greater share of all income. Their share of all pre-tax income went from 37.5 percent in 2001 to 42 percent in 2007."
