You guys have convinced me - President Obama shouldn't be trying to inspire our kids to learn more, to take their educational opportunity seriously, and to succeed. We should have people who the kids look up to give a speech instead. Maybe Paris Hilton, or Hanna Montana, or maybe some professional athlete could try to inspire our kids instead.

Interesting point.

I see no problem with any President encouraging school kids to study hard and succeed. In fact, I support that because I think it's a good idea. Too many AA kids seem (from what I've read) to avoid school etc in favor of hoping for a carrer in sports, perhaps Obama could inspire them to take school more seriously and succeed with him as a positive example.

Normally, I'd wait until I heard the speech before complaiing about it. But, comments about 'us serving the President' (and it looks to have originally been in this upcoming speech, and it was in the 4 minute commercial shown to school kids) are concerning - even creepy as another poster has said.

We don't serve the President, he serves us. Now, if anybody wants to ask school kids to serve our country, that's another matter and I'm fine with it.

But us serving the President? That's a creepy 'cult of personality' type thing and shame on anybody defending that. (That commercial shown to school kids actually encouraged them to be servants of Obama) :disgust:

I'm glad my kids have Tuesday off from school. Some staff development day that was planned long ago.
I don't see why anyone is against people pulling their kids that day. It's their/your right/responsibility as a parent to choose what they are exposed to. I've not been keeping up on this exact issue due to being on the road but if anyone thinks that the idea was just some "innocent" little pep talk then they've been drinking too much of the change colored kool-aid. BHO (and any President for that matter) doesn't exert effort for trivial things. But hey - it's good to see people paying attention!

Yep, and that is entirely different than "us serving the President".

He didn't say the 'smart' people were liberal, he said the more educated you were, the more likely you are to be liberal... and he's completely right. You can argue the exact causes for this if you want to, but there's no denying a statistically significant correlation between education and liberalism.

Yep, "elitism" isn't something you're born with - it's something you're taught. ;)

And now along comes daddy CPA telling his kids he doesn't want them to watch the President of the United States even when the President wants to talk to them about doing well in school....I know the first thing that would come out of my 11yo and 7 yo's mouth is "Why?"

Actually I don't teach me daughter to respect those people just because of their position. That's stupid, because many of them got their positions in disrespectful ways. I teach her that respect is earned.

You sound like a bad parent who (assuming you even have children) teaches blind obedience.

Thanks, coming from you that helps my confidence in knowing that I am on the right track with raising my kids

As I said, you're a terrible parent.

Changing your name doesn't erase the fact that you're always wrong.

It's an aversion to being stalked by Minnesotan bumpkins.

Still bitter from a day at the help desk?

We get it Boober, you hate yourself.

It's OK, I understand how hard it must be to have get up and live your life every day.

Only if one correlates education or liberalism with elitism, which of course we both know would be incredibly retarded.

Just spoke with honey-bun who works in school administration and has for 15 years...and she's a democrat. Her exact words on the lesson plan was "that's fucking bullshit, that's straight up required idol worship right there. WHY the hell is he doing this, with this kind of propaganda plan, in school? Why not just address them at 8:00 in the evening?".

They have been getting slammed by parents upset about his. Just asked here if she's heard of it, oh yeah, they've heard of it. It's not the message that people disagree with, it's how it's being pushed along with the 4 page lesson plan (that they've had to change because it boiled down to "how can I be a servant to obama?")

Spidey, your quixotic crusade on this issue isn't doing anything other than make people think you're even crazier than we thought. As I've asked you before, take a step back and look at what you're flipping out about. Do you think this is normal?

That's why I asked the opinion of my girl, since she has a masters in education and doing her doctorate right now. I wanted to get her professional opinion. I got it and I posted it.

She brings up good points:
1) Why at at school and why the lesson plan from the education department?
2) Why not at night where parents can talk about this "historic moment" together?
3) Why the removal of "what can I do for Obama"?
4) What did he possibly mean to achieve with these combined actions when the message could be delivered in much less controversial means?

And lastly, why does anybody that speaks out, and ACTS in protest of this president a crazy? It's almost comical to watch all the name calling with no real point.

So, not wanting our children to part of idol worship is crazy? Interesting.

It appears that a lot of school districts across the country are not going to be broadcasting Great Leader's message and participating in the lesson plan on Tuesday due to complaints from parents.

What percentage of kids in America would watch Obama (or anyone else) at 8PM? Once you figure that out, you'll have your answer.

If you honestly think this is 'idol worship', then you need to go look at the real world and see what idol worship actually is.

I will admit that people could think it was that out of ignorance, but if they do know what it is.. then yes. Crazy.

I already used that insult, you just quoted it.

And hate to break it to you, but you started this back-and-forth, so it's your projection that is sadly, painfully obvious.

Because then they would have a choice, along with their parents on whether to watch it or not.

And speaking of past history of behavior, if this seemed like a new thing for Obama then maybe not much attention should be paid to it. It's constant beat of his actions and "this is a historic moment" that has reached the boiling point of people saying "back the fuck off Obama".

I'll quote the Patriot David Hendrick - "Stay away from my kids!"

So as long as Obama gave an ineffective appeal to students so that only a tiny fraction of them would watch it or even be aware that it existed, you would be ok with it. (actually you wouldn't, you would have started shrieking in another thread with "HOW MANY TIMES IS HE GOING TO BE ON TV")

You're the guy who earlier in this thread... when shown evidence from an objective source that the people you were quoting were 'pants on fire' false, and you responded with 'and now I'm even more convinced I'm right'. If you heard someone else say this, what would you think of them?

The GOP reaction to this issue exactly the behavior that cost them last year's election and will continue to cost them elections in the future, until they wake up. They can say what they will about Obama, and occasionally be right even, but none that means a thing when they are so obviously incapable of wielding any form of power at this time. IOW, you're fuckin whackjobs.

BTW, you cannot be a patriot if you love party more than country. PERIOD. IMO, partisan extremists - on both sides - are more or less traitors to freedom and liberty with their psychopathic hatred of half of their countrymen.

What the hell are you going on about now. But please keep up the diversion and not address the 4 points I and honey-bun have made. One of us has a masters in teaching, and it sure as hell ain't me.

So what really are you going on about with your post, I'm not getting the point.
