Will try that jdogg707 but let's keep this thread open, I don't think it's only me, and I know it's not an OC'ing issue and should not be there in that thread... This is a hardware issue that peeps should be made aware of b4 they spring a few hundies out for a CPU that although scales AWESOME!!! for may not be the best gamer with XP?? We'll fix it... trust me....

Yeah shuttleteam but are they using them for gaming?? And can they play Conan with them and if you're not sure, can you ask them to try? or any of the other games I mentioned, would really appreciate it... See if they have ATI or NVIDIA as well, that would be really appreciated...
Thanks!!!

LOL, no games but loaded with six hard disks and 2GB PC3200 running in dual channel mode. Quite a load on Antec 400W PS. No stability problems.

This was the recommended mainboard for the Prescott. (or PressHOT)

Cheers!

Yeah already tried that with a 460WATT
It's not power dude, or OC'ing or the fact that it's an ES CPU....
Get yer chums to run 1 of the games I mentioned....
If they can, just tell me the name of the card and that's it....
ATI or NVIDIA??? With either OS or with 2003AS this CPU is a monster... I know it, you know it, let's get this gaming issue sorted out....

Thanks!

In win2k are you running the oS with HT enabled and recognized??? Are you with winxp??? I am just thinking maybe some compatability of bios, OS, and newer prescotts...

PS... @ 34' degrees with water at Idle and 41 on MAX load, it's not all that much to pay for a 4.0GHz and I also only hit 51 With air wich is still very respectable.... Considering the 107Watt output at Idle.... heh heh... need better help...

Oh sorry, I missed that it doesn't happen when not overclocked. Well, I'd look into a BIOS update as others have suggested and failing that, I guess I'd be looking at a new install of XP on a seperate partition which could easily be deleted to see if it does it there too...

Umm...I just read through it more thoroughly. If you pop the northwood back in there and everything works fine, then the E-sample prescott is obviously flakey assuming you have proper BIOS support for it. Working in Win2k means nothing. My last system worked fine in 98 even though it had a bad stick of ram. Win2k was completley messed on it though just because it's a different operating system and it makes different calls to hardware.
If you can't get an updated bios, you should try the chip in another board and failing that, sell it.

LOL, I don't think they are going to run games on SBS 2003 with a Matrox PCI Millennium II video card. Monster Truck madness will run but I don't think that is what you're looking for.

Also, this CPU is not hot. (default vcc with Intel provided "thermo-engine lookalike" cooler) Barely warmer than a 2.8G NW. I guess all the heat is coming from chaps cranking up the VCC and o/c like mad. With that I give you a warning. This is uncharted territory and with smaller die size (and 1MB L2) there could be a lot of premature cpu deaths out there! It's no longer called Russian Roulette once you put more than one bullet in the gun!

Cheers!

Hey shuttleteam,

How do you know it's not any warmer than a NW @ 2.8? Come on... get it right, this is THE hottest P4 ever made hands down, if you don't think so then I think you better go back to yer boss and tell him my 3.2 @ 4.0Prescott(42'Degrees(Heavy)) is ALOT hotter than my 2.8 @ 3.75Northwood(22'Degrees(Heavy), maybe he can fix it? And again, I'll say sorry dude, That's why I'm watercooling now... But all this in real application does not solve my gaming problem??? Fix it shuttleteam if you are an Intel spokesman??? I need the help!!! NOW!!!

Well watercooling is not necessary. I am the boss! 😛

CPU temp is always under 50C even under considerable load. (SQL2000)

Of course you probably don't have your stuff in a rack with plenum cooling. Perhaps in a packed PC with little airflow those temps will soar. Still, it's not a furnace unless you jack up the VCC and overclock the shoit out it!

Try playing your games with HT disabled!

I dunno, I never have these problems! LOL

Cheers!

WHAT???? My Northwood once ran at 11'C Degrees with air!!!! come on... anyway I can plainly see yer not Harcore, yer a soft-like substance that settles.... with whatever is dropped in his/her server room.... Well I may be the guy that wakes you up dude... Cause I'm still tryin to be on the edge of what's happening in the real world.... AMD64 Awesome..... Won't hit 11043 Drhystone for a while, but gettin close and if you are a spokesman, you better listen to guys like me before you release, cause although I CAN cool with water alot of peeps out there can't.... I cannot play 3/4 of the New games I want with XP but I can with 2000 and Prescott??? Is this reverse engineer-ing gone mad or is it only me??? Keep up the good work.... Longtime Intel man... Little Venting.... Keith Warden!

The only thing I would do right now is test it in another mobo. Check Windows update if they have something for the Prescott. Check the video card drivers. The only thing causing the problem right now is the CPU, since you said it runs fine with a Northwood. If you value the CPU more, you can also say that the mobo is the problem or the OS (WinXP). I'm thinking its got to do something with the mobo and its Prescott support (especially ES ones).
