I pay $11.95 for basic cable. My local cable internet provider charges $15 a month if you opt not to get cable TV. So I'm saving $3.05 a month to have just a few channels with nothing on.

I agree. I watch two shows via DVR, and it is amazing how much time I spend fast forwarding through commercials.

And that is why you see so much advertising creeping into the bottom corner (if you are lucky) of the shows as well as split-screen advertising during the credits.

nowadays, the only TV we watch are TNT & USA (law & order), Nat Geo, Hist Channel, maybe a couple of shows on Network TV and a LOT of cartoons (have 2 little kids).

we have a lot of kids movies on our modded xbox, so even the cartoons aren't soo much.

we have Time Warner basic cable(channels 2-99) + digital tier + HD service + HD DVR. I'd love to get rid of all my digital channels, BUT I need them to get HD service (new LCD TV), and HBO channels are like 3.99 on top of all that.

so, with Roadrunner + cable, my bill is ~140/month.

i use the hell out of my PC DVR, too, but that can only record from non-digital channels (2-99).

Here it comes down to $50 for basic service, about $90ish with any premium channel and about $100 for all of them.

It sucks...

I do get an On Demand channel for every premium I have and that makes finding a movie or show pretty easy most nights.

Total with 6mb/sec internet is $150/mth.

Or a pvr and you save on the monthly for the tivo/dvr box and/or service fee. ;)

They are doing away with analog in Feb. so everyone is required to go up to the $45/mo. plan plus the cost of the digital box rental. My parents will at least finally get to watch things in HD on their HDTV they've had for like 6 years now.
