At my gym you either listen to your own music or you listen to theirs. I got real tired of listening to theirs. Besides that, my earbuds excel at blocking out external noise, which has two benefits:

1. Often plates fall in plate-stacked machines and the sound is so loud it hurts my ears. My Etymotic earbuds reduce that noise to where I can tolerate it.

2. I don't have to hear distracting or insipid conversations.

There's one CD I listened to over 200 times in the course of a year because it energized me.
