http://dreamcast.onlineconsoles.com/phpBB2/portal.php for some online-game action, plus a collection of Q3 stuff to run your own server
http://home.elp.rr.com/terlouw/DCWinMEServer.htm to use an 'ol 98 machine to connect your DC to the internets... ya, ALL of the internets
http://schtserv.funurl.com/ for Phantasy Star Online... that's right, the classic... click it
Fun multi-player/party games:
Looney toons space race -- kinda like mario-kart
south park rally -- kinda like mario-kart... but maybe not suitable for younger kids
pen-pen trilcelon -- kid oriented fun race game (too short though)
ooga booga -- one of the funniest games ever, imo
ready2rumble boxing -- funny for 2 players
Space channel 5 -- fun
bomberman -- fun
mr driller -- reminds me of Tetris, but even more addicting and fun
Toy Commander -- the whole reason i ever got into the dreamcast
samba de amigo -- only if you can find the maraccas... expensive on ebay
harder race games:
daytona usa -- good
F355 challenge -- realistic
Metropolis street racer -- hard
pod speedzone -- futuristic
test drive le mans -- you'll think you're playing an xbox
test drive v-rally -- cool, and you can design your own tracks
classics:
alien front online
crazy taxi (1 and 2) -- just fun
every "2k2" game -- excellent
Q3 arena -- why else would you set up a server?
Shenmue -- excellent story/graphics
sonic adventure (1 and 2) -- fun
starlancer -- really really good
phantasy star online -- very popular rpg
wwf royal rumble -- fun
excellent games that don't look excellent from the cover:
red dog -- most under-rated game ever, imo
mdk 2 -- hard, but it keeps pulling you back
trick style -- fun/hard race game on a hover-board
silver -- adventure rpg

games that will take some effort to aquire:

half life -- if you've never heard of this.....
propeller arena -- loads of fun for up to 4 players.
games to AVOID, even if they are given to you:

ceasars palace 2000 -- lame
espn track-n-field -- lame
fatal fury -- poor
hoyle casino -- lame
jojo's bizarre adventure -- lame
seventh cross evolution -- very poor
south park: chef's luv shack -- lamest of lame
roadsters -- super lame
spirit of speed 1937 -- extremely poor
sports jam -- poor
sydney 2000 -- lame
tnn hardcore heat --very poor
who wants to beat up a millionare -- dumb and lame
virtua athlete -- poor
giant killers -- it's not even a game... you get to read text.
Pretty much every game not on my "avoid" list is worth getting -- there's about 250, not including the home-brew stuff. Plus another 5 or so "imports" that are playable without knowing japanese, another 25 if you DO know japanese.
Side notes: avoid the nyko rumble packs if you can -- they freeze starlancer for sure, and probably other games too. if the linux thing interests you, get a keyboard. get a keyboard anyway... i got one brand new for $1.99 a few months ago at gamestop (or if you're lucky, you might find a DC-->ps/2 adapter).
light-guns are worth getting for House of the Dead 2, virtua cop, plus a couple other games. the fishing reel is cool if you like the fishing games. Same goes with the steering wheel for race games; the joystick if you want to rule at Q3 arena.
If you like the idea of the Dreamcast scene, but just can't scratch up $15 after blowing your life savings on a brand new 3GHz PC with top-of-the-line graphics and a couple gig of ram....
then check this out... a DC emulator I don't have the horsepower to run it, so I can't comment regarding how good it is.
also... original DC games are not compatible with regular CD-ROM drives. I hear that some older Yamaha drives could read them, but very few.
