Hmm where i werk we just got in some Philips 2x single layer BD-R discs (25 GB).

$20 CND isn't even too bad for initial pricing.

But the burner...ahhh :Q

Worse than BetaMax, because a vote for Blu-Ray is a vote for their draconian DRM process. I'm just saying, "No". :|

You misread - I said BluRay is like Betamax. The "It" refers to the subject of the thread (BluRay) bringing nothing to my party. When Betamax came out, VHS followed - a technically inferior process, but cheaper and good enough for the mass market. Reel-to-reel? Never saw that in home video players - but I still have a reel-to-reel audio tape player. :)

like people are saying there's going to be like a fight it's going to keep us from buying. it's either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray if you buy the wrong one your going to be fudged.

yep thats what i'm gonna do :)

Same here...might even be able to do $200 for a reader/burner, but any more than that and I'll just wait... I'm also glad I didn't spend $500 on an early DVD burner only to be stuck with a dog-slow 2x speed when 16x drives are $40 these days. :p

I do love my HD, but format war (especially coupled with high prices) = I'm keeping my distance for now.

I understand "it" refers to "Blu-ray" but since you wrote:

the inference is that Blu-ray brings nothing to your party the same as Betamax brought nothing to your party. I'm still curious why Betamax was not welcome to your party if its place was not already taken?

You should tell all home electronics your parties are strictly BYOB :p
