to be fair it's not like AMD is milking it like other company's do; they are charging a premium because of just how good their product is...

then buy the intel dual core...

Yea go buy intel. As for me I just don't want to spend money on a processor yet. No need for dual core and never any money will go towards intel.

Anandtech Review of the Processor Link

There's not much to say here other than that the Athlon 64 X2 3800+ is the clear choice for any user at this price point. What you give up in single threaded performance is more than made up for by the improvements in multitasking and multithreaded application performance.

for the most part dual core is useless, and so is 64 bit, because no apps I use take advantage of either.

It all depends on how long you plan to use the processor you buy. If you upgrade every 6 months, then, sure, it's probably not worth it. If you're going to keep it for 2 or 3 years, why not get it now so you won't be kicking yourself down the line.

You should stop looking at benchmark results and start thinking about multitasking ability. With a dual core you could be encodeing a file or running another CPU intensive task in the background while your playing a fast paced fps and getting the same fps you would on a single core A64.

You can run two instances of folding and get the same production as you would get from two high-end single core machines. Future cancer patients will thank you.

MINE SHIPPED YESTERDAY! WOOT.. i got the combo tho so its the oem chip... but yeah... this is awesome

You should of gotten the three year warranty through Monarch that they offer for only a few bucks more if you didn't.

So is the $354 price set by AMD the price of an OEM or Retail CPU? I'm wondering how much $369 for an OEM chip from Monarch is really inflated.

Anyone have a firm answer on my earlier question about whether the $354 price set by AMD is for a OEM or Retail CPU?

It arrived.. running @ 2.4 with no voltage bump at all.. temps look good about 45 degrees... need more stress testing to see if its stable though.

Let the price gouging begin. Monarch raised their prices $10 to $409, and Newegg is selling them for $405. So $379 at Fry's isn't looking so bad.
