It could have been a 34-year old mother with a young daughter. Instead it's a 84-year old line-cutter.

That woman, Mindy Crandell, 34, is not upset that her charitable gesture likely cost her an enormous fortune and says "things are meant to be for a reason."

Crandell, of Zephyrhills, Fla., was in line to purchase lottery tickets in Publix on May 18 while tending to one of her two daughters when Mackenzie, 84, stepped in front of her.

"My 10-year-old said, 'Mom, There's a lady in front of us.' I noticed that the lady was there. Didn't pay a lot of mind to it," Crandall said.

The lady at the counter stopped Mackenzie to allow Crandell to reclaim her spot in line. Crandell declined the offer and told Mackenzie "go ahead. " It was a move that could have potentially cost the Crandells the $590.5 million Powerball ticket. Mackenzie purchased one Quick Pick ticket and left the store.

This is what happens when you allow people, or the government for that matter, to walk all over you, you see what should have been yours vanish before your eyes.

Never let someone cut you in line, doesn't matter if they are old, or bigger and stronger than you. Fight for what is yours.

And if the woman had one would she have given the 84 year old any money?

Apathy allows the government to steal without consequence.

OT...

I just looked in P&N for a topic I'm interested in. Fuck that forum. Anything interesting gets hijacked by mental pygmies. I'd rather play Russian roulette with a semi auto :^S

Wait what?? I thought you randomly pick numbers on a card. Unless this 34 yo woman had the same exact numbers as the 84yo....Then why does it even matter? If the younger woman didn't pick the winning numbers, who the fuck cares when she bought the ticket?

They both bought Quick Picks, which means the machine generated the numbers.

Quick Pick tickets let the lottery machine itself pick the numbers for you randomly. The OP is making the assumption that the winning ticket numbers would have come up on the next ticket regardless of when the ticket was produced.

There's no guarantee she would have gotten the same numbers. In fact, it's far more likely that she wouldn't have.

If the machine picks randomly, whoever got the next random number would be the winner. Someone noted above that time could be used for the randomization algorithm, so it might not matter. One second(or fraction thereof) either way could change the number.

Yes I did make that assumption, but if she took her place in line, its highly likely that the neither would have won, still setting the universe in order.

It's possible that the government picks the winner based on facial recognition through the security cameras as well.

For trying to cut her in line? If I had won and had to argue or fight to get my spot back in line, she could expect a lawsuit, or at the very least, scamming her out of her home.

Your title is mis-leading and not accurate -- but hey so whats new....
This old lady was allowed to go ahead of another customer..in fact on the news this older lady thanked the customer for allowing her to go ahead....

So where do you get she cut in line??

It`s not cutting if you are given permission to go ahead...

It's a logical fallacy. Just because the 84 year old got the numbers via quick pick does not mean that the 34 year old would have received the same numbers even if she did quick pick at the exact same time.

Predetermined outcome fallacy.

Receiving permission AFTER you cut, still makes it a cut.

It's probably better the 84 year old won.

Lottery winners end up on a drug/alcohol fueled binge and lose all their money in 5 years. The 34 year old woman's young daughter would have ended up OD-ing by the age of 16.

Absent any guarantee, the fact remains that the woman still cut in line. It's possible to argue if she hadn't cut in line she still could have won, but she didn't, so a cutter prospered, end of story.

Regardless, I didn't say in my subject that a potential winner was cut in line and thus lost, I said the winner cut in line, I also said the person who was cut COULD have won. So nothing I said was wrong, and the truth, at least purported truth according to woman featured in article, is that she was cut. So you are projected everything about guarantees that the woman cut would have won, or any other conclusions that I did not make.

How does the random quick pick generator work? If she argued with the lady about the spot in line, perhaps that would've been a long enough delay for the machine to have selected a whole new set of numbers for the 84 year old. Maybe she'll give her some money to help her out.

who the hell cares if she cut in line or not. i certainly hope, with your selfish attitude toward other human beings, that my life never has to depend on you saving it.

lose the floppy shoes and red nose, clown.
