The odds of me winning is probably a bit less than me getting hit by lightning...on a sunny day...being indoor...twice.
But you can't win if you don't play so I'll donate my $2 and can dream about it until the drawing.

megamillions is up to $200 million

i wonder what actual expected value per dollar is when it's that high? yes, there is the change of multiple jackpot winners with larger jackpots, but i rarely consider the odds and payout of the smaller prizes ($250,000, or a million if you buy texas' "megaplier" ticket).

Just got back from picking up ten tickets.

At least I'll be able to fantacise all night about how to spend the $'s 🙂

www.powerball.com?

does that site update immediately after the drawing?

the key is not finding the information, it's finding the information as it happens or immediately after. does the powerball site update immediately after the drawing? Or is it like the local gas stations, where they don't know if the ticket is a winner until the next day? Obviously the numbers will be all over the place tomorrow. I don't want to know if I'm a winner tomorrow though. I want to know tonight. and since I'm not in a powerball state I can't watch the tv broadcast as far as I know.

It definitely updates the same night... but whether it updates 1 minute after the drawing or 30 minutes after the drawing, I can't say. I just know everytime I buy a lottery ticket it's usually late at night when I remember to go check the numbers.

Oh.. and FYI, you don't have to look it up because you won't win. I will... 😛

I once worked for the newspaper my first year of college, where I would travel to grocery stores in all parts of the state and spend a fair amount of time at each (promotional/sales booth).

Poor people buy many lottery tickets

Rich people never bought tickets.

It has as much to do with outlook on life as it does need

How did you come up with this?

Did you read his post, it was his personal observation based on spending lots of time at convenience stores. Growing up in a nice suberb next to the inner city I saw the same thing. Lots of poor people religously buying lottery tickets on payday. Of course the lotteries have their own studies that show otherwise but I just don't blelieve it. Hey as long as my taxes don't go up...

my question is more towards how did he know which people are poor and which ones are loaded by just 'observation' without actually looking at their credit report, bank statements, etc.

Well it was quite obvious. There were areas I worked in that were the worst, most ghetto parts of town, and there was no question that the vast majority were poor. I also worked in areas surrounded by large homes/mansions, in which there was little question that the population in the area was largely wealthy.

Also, it is generally quite obvious to me who has money and who is very poor.
