Gambling is only stupid when the odds aren't in your favor or you can't handle the volatility.Originally posted by: Malak
Oh, and there is no entertainment with the lotto. It's just a waste of money. Scratch tickets are more fun, but still a waste. Gambling is just plain stupid. That's why the slot machine business is a multi-billion dollar industry.

Yeah it's a pain in the ass having to go to the convenience store / gas station whenever you want to buy a lottery ticket.

What's the deadline on buying tickets for this particular drawing? As long as you buy 30 seconds before it's drawn or what? 😛

The odds are never in your favor.

You can claim it in a blind trust, which is the smart way to claim any lottery winnings. If you ever win the lottery, your first call should be to a lawyer.Originally posted by: dainthomas
I would never want anyone to know my name if I ever won something like that. Is it possible to set up some kind of dummy corporation, then have a lawyer pick it up for you?
The money would be nice, but all the losers coming out of the woodwork to hassle you 24/7 would be a PITA.

I wouldn't tell anyone I won either, outside of my spouse and my parents. I wouldn't tell my siblings and would instruct my parents not to either.
Properly invested, a prize like that could provide a constant flow of money and you'd never touch the original investment.

i believe the lottery must release your name to prove that noone working for the lottery won.
I'm not sure exactly. What happens is the lawyer sets up an account and claims the money as your agent and the funds go into the account, where you can do whatever you wish with them. Because of client confidentiality, the lawyer can't divulge the owner of the trust (you), so all the lottery agency (and the general public) know is that someone won the lottery in the area, but they don't know who.Originally posted by: JEDI
blind trust? how does that work?
