Power supplies and other advice

I'm gonna be building a pc in a month or so, and I'm having a bit of trouble picking out some components. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Priceis a pretty big issue at the moment, but I want to try tomake the best PC I can withen my budget. Here's what I'm looking at:

-Athlon XP 1800+ OEM
-Soltek SL-75drv5 kt333 Socket A
-PC2100 256 mb DDR (planning onb upgrading this in 6 months or so)
-Netlink 320K 18" 300W ATX case
-Volcano 7 fan

I'm gonna also be getting a DVD drive, and carying over my HDD, CD-RW, and Geforce 3 from my current PC. My main two concerns are:

-Will the 300W power supply be enough? I've heard somepeople having problems on XP systems with less then 350W.

-Heat. I know the Athlon XP's run hot, but is the Volcano 7 really necessary if I'm not planning to over clock.

I was also wondering if it would be wise to wait a couple months before purchasing these components. How close are the next lines of Mobo's and processors to being realeased? If there as a price drop it would make my decisions sooo much easier.

Thanks for all you help.

power supply should be good enough, but check the price of retail processors, i have bought a few lately and the oem was only $20 cheaper and came with no fan and a 30 day warrenty so i have been buying retail that come with hsf and 3 year

It depends on what powersupply it is. Many do not put out the required wattage on the 5V and 3.3V lines that faster processors need. Some (like Antec's) do.
