I find Rush Limbaugh repugnant, but then I am an incurable Howard Stern fan - to each his own I guess!

yes, but the big difference is that stern doesn't try to be anything more then he is:p Imagine if stern listeners were like ditto heads.. blindly licking up the scraps of ignorance from their vile leader:p ouch.

i like the words of al franken the best, rush limbaugh is a big fat idiot. and proves theres a sucker born every moment:p

<< Rush Limbaugh is a complete idiot. >>

"On the contrary, he's an excellent business man. He learned how to capitalize on others ignorance and turn it into a healthy income. "

And as long as there are democrats like Kennedy and Byrd out there he'll never run out of other ignorance to turn into a profit.

<<I would LOVE to go to college, btw, BUT when some Liberal Professor starts his know it all attitude, I'm the type that will cut him down to size!>>

You know what they say about putting two know it all's in the same room.....

Well since Rush seems to generate at least a great deal of heat if little light, maybe we can use him to generate electricity here in Cali.

<< Coming from your perspective, where it's necessary to feel good about your position in life, I am sure you need to adhere to this mantra. >>

I think that's a condition we can all admit to. No?

<< Rush avoids debate and prefers the imflammatory. >>

Quite the contrary. Sometimes he debates a caller for over a half hour or so. Call in and claim to disagree...you are instantly moved to the front and as long as you are on topic you get on. Many times it is the caller that resorts to namecalling and inuendo...just like some members here.

<< Rush has no interest in verifying his assertions >>

That's patently false. 99% of the time he reads a story from a publication or news outlet stateing the EXACT source and THEN comments.

...And I already asserted that Rush is biased...the difference being he admits it and most do not.

<< ...there IS a difference between those who are educated and those who are not. No offense, but your minor errors in spelling and grammar are subtle indicia that you may not have had the benefit of a college education. >>

In the past, I 'carried' my thesaurus around while posting and checked my spelling, etc...I decided to let my 'character' show. I needed no college to understand the way to proper English, just paying attention in high school would have been enough. Besides, I've got to let you college types feel superior about something!;)

Fair enough. I regret my post to the extent it came off as picking on you - you do seem like a bright guy. I just really, really liked college and I still think education is important.

You are still nuts on the Rush Limbaugh thing, though!

No apology needed. When I went to HS, the skirts the girls were wearing wouldn't cover their butts when they sat down. All I could think about was how cold those seats must have been and that I'd volunteer to warm them up in a pinch....the butts, not the seats!

I had very good teachers, but their skirts were longer and therefore garnered less attention.

So, that was English class...

And as stated earlier and in other posts, I would love to go to college. At least at night or partime, but life has other demands for now. I would dearly like to get into the computer field...then I could sit around all day and post on Anand's and get paid for it..;)

Rush is one of the more controversal characters around to say the least, but I find the name calling just an excuse to avoid the issues he comments on. I agree with him about 90% of the time and his Paul Shanklin authored satarical tunes are as funny as anything I've heard. He does get carried away at times, but find much of his commentary to be better than I can get elsewhere. His show is about HIM and his beliefs and he needs make no apology for that.

Tominator - If you want to believe Rush as if he is some sort of legitimate reporter, go ahead. But that is blatantly opposed to the healthy skepticism you indicated should be present in considering every biased source. And Rush's "sources" are often commentaries, not news reports. When he quotes facts, he overlays whatever spin is needed to inflame his drones and help his ratings. Come on, you can't be duped so badly that this is not obvious to you, right? Rush loves to foment all the drones who just swallow his spin without a bit of skeptical thought.

The "debates" to which you refer are not debates at all. Rush and every radio and TV entertainer has the mute button, the pre-selection screens (you pointed this out yourself), and can cut off a discussion at any time. Don't get me wrong, he has fine-tuned his methods to maximize the entertainment value to his target audience, but as long as he controls all the rules of a "debate" it can not, in any fashion, be a real debate. Besides, as was stated earlier, Rush himself states he is an entertainer, not a news reporter.

I would not permit Rush, any commentator, or even real journalists, to influence my opinions so strongly. That's just foolish.

We can agree there, and you have moderated your attitude towards him in this latest post. That is sensible. However, although it is not a true debate and in that you are correct, he NEVER cuts off callers unless they become abusive and uses the mute button only when they refuse to let him respond. He skips breaks and generally bends over backwards to let the opposing views be expressed.

I had most of my beliefs nailed down long before I knew who he was.

No, I still think Rush is a poor entertainer. But he's just an entertainer, so it doesn't really matter. ;)

Rush tries to pass everything off as black and white issues, whereas they hardly ever are. However, to people who like to generalize, his arguments make sense. These are the people who tout "Rush is Right".

Oh, regardless of education level, everyone has an opinion, and the right to express it. Though we can disagree with one another, we should not disrespect one another.
