Really? I'm surprised. All the ones over here have IBM hardware, even the new stores. They USED to be IBM only, but like anything that can change. What part was it?

Well, I'm going from memory. I haven't looked at the self checkout machines in a long time.

I just googled it, I think they are NCR. That is not uncommon though. I have seem IBM POS systems with SCO lanes from NCR, Fujitsu, and IBM. Certainly their could be more.

I like the way Walmart is doing the layout of these now. Years ago I worked at a grocery store, and they were right inside the front door! Sure, no stealing going on there!

The power core was being used in a lot of BtoB items. I can't go into it just in case it opens up the few I know that did not get cut. But the problem is IBM was just milking the power groups and now there is not much left.

So toss out the people that made it and don't even give them their 401k match, let alone the pension they were promised when hired.

Forbes had an article on how they were the first major corporation to move to a once yearly match. They hinted about a class action suit should IBM lay off a large number of people and not pay the match given it wasn't a termination for "cause".

Walmart is everywhere. They don't setup all the stores the same. Theft from SCO's is difficult to monitor. Typically, stores don't apply the necessary personal to monitor it effectively. A place like Walmart knows this, and takes their lumps.

That sure is the truth. Down here Ingles Markets is the worst at keeping someone at the station, but their put the uscans away for the doors and right in front of the service desk, where the managers usually hang out. Most stores have plenty of cameras in that area, but by the time you catch somebody that way, it's too late.

People are smart. The lanes that run both height and weight measurements are most effective, as long as the store sets the measurements in the controller software correctly :)

And as long as the customer actually scans the item :)
