Power came back here at my apt. in downtown Toronto at 6:30-7am. Rogers cable just came on in my area 20 min. ago. (That's why I'm posting now :) ). Power did go out for about 45 minutes at 1:30pm, but it's okay now.

No AC on because of conservation. Because my apt's water pump is electric power, we were without water after 5pm. Luckily, I filled a couple of bottles before it ran out so that we would have enough for the night.

I was happy that I had both a battery powered radio and a portable TV for information, but the Toronto OTA stations are pretty weak. CTV had the strongest signal, but even that was pretty weak.

What a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday, be Amish for a day. Power came back on here about half an hour ago. No A/C yet, but it's better than nothing. I gotta setup one of those free dial up ISP's for myself. Primary system is a laptop so power goes out again, I've still got internet at home. :)

I didn't read the thread (too long) but just wanted to say that I feel for you all. I'm in Oklahoma and we lost power for THREE days last week because of a bad storm. We lost all our food (that we couldn't fit into the fridge/freezer at the motel) and spent three nights at a local motel.

Thanks. True it will be a memorable birthday. Now if I could just turn the A/C on. :D

just got power in downtown NYC around 3:50 pm (half hour ago). Most other buildings in the area had power up this morning... not mine though. Woke up with no power, assumed everyone was the same and that the market would be closed (ie, no work)... guess I was wrong. Had to go to work and showered there...

walking up and down 20 flights of stairs in the pitch black to get to/from my apt is a bitch!

I just spent 8 hours on the road driving from Dearborn to Saginaw and back to buy a generator.

And, I got the word just as I got to Saginaw that my power came back on.

Oh well, I figured they might cut us back off and I've been meaning to get one anyway.

Only a 2500 watt for $800(John Deer) but it'll keep the freezer and fridge going.

We are going now to our correspondent in "Insert City"
Anchor: tell us how are you feeling, what are you seeing
Correspondent: well there is no electricity
Achor: Thx for the info
Correspondent: Back to the studio

LOL

I hate CNN.

Wolf Blister seems to think Toronto is full of looting, darkness and battling 5 fires. Hmmm.... it?s like they compressed major news in Canada down to one city and added looting to the mix. Damn those BC fires! It jumped all the way across the country to Toronto...

Just got intarweb access back about an hour ago. Got power back this morning at 8:30. New Yorkers rock! Everyone was in perfect order yesterday even though we had no clue what was going on. Still no subways :(

Just had the power cut out for a few seconds here. It's all good though, laptop battery is fully charged and I've set myself up with a free dial up ISP. Just in case, I'm ready. :)

Just got online now. Power was restored to my neighborhood at about quarter to six, cable came on soon after, and cable Internet has only just become available.

No AC since 4pm yesterday sucks MAJOR ass. On the bright-side, I didn't have to work today!

power is back on in my area. They do not expect power to be restored to Detroit until Sunday night.

During an interview with a spokesman for DTE Energy, a reporter asked why the minorities and poor in Detroit will be the last ones to get power back.

Nevermind the fact that Detroit has voted down quite a few times a new power plant in their city and instead they were built in outlying areas.

It was funny beacause I had decided to move out of my apartment on Thursday instead of Friday as previously planned. I had my fan and two small items left to pack and the electricty went out. I remembered that I had saw some electrcians outside and thought they had turned it off. I then went to turn my keys in and all the traffic lights were out. I then started driving home and on the radio they talked about how electricity was out everywhere. I was like :Q and was happy that I got out just in time.
