Here in Guelph, Ontario we were without power for 25 hours. It came back yesterday around 5pm and I heard it would be off again in 12 hours because they were doing rotations, but it's almost been 24 hours and it hasn't been shut off yet. Guess it's staying on.

ok CNN is ridiculous
I hate CNN.
Wolf Blister seems to think Toronto is full of looting, darkness and battling 5 fires. Hmmm.... it?s like they compressed major news in Canada down to one city and added looting to the mix. Damn those BC fires! It jumped all the way across the country to Toronto...

I was working in the city that Thursday when my comp flickered and BAM, nothing. My co-workers saw the stores across the street with no electricity so we knew its not just our building. First thought that came to mind was terrorism.

Talk about having a cell phones not working. Imagine everyone trying to call out at the same time. Yikes!!

They let us go early and I trekked it to Port Authority not thinking the lights would be out in the terminal and they were not letting anyone in. Stood around for a while and decided to maybe catch a ferry to NJ. Bad mistake. What the heck was I thinking. I was standing in the baking sun for about 30 minutes when I said freak this.

I eventually got through to the mrs and she suggested I head to her brothers place in the city. I turned around and hoofed it to my brother in laws place in the city on 87th st from 42nd st. Talk about hot and sticky. When I got there, thank goodness, there was still some light.

Power came on the next morning at 6:00am. Did not have work. Eventually got an Amtrak train out of Penn station for Home. It was HOT and barely enough light on that level where the NJ trains were.

What an adventure.

Same as Toronto. In Action though on Friday it shut off for about 2-4 hours I don't know I wasn't counting the time. I have a friend out there and we were visiting.

I couldnt help it, I turned on the air. I was able to survive with no power, I can survive again but I'm not going to die from heat ;)

Actually my power didn't cut off at all once the initial blackout was finished.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Here in Cleveland they were saying don't turn on your AC yet there was a browns and indians game on Friday. Both of them night games, using tons of lights and sucking up loads of power. Don't turn on your AC cause you might cause the grid to go down again, but where gonna be using tons of high powered stadium lights later on.

Our mayor or whoever he is, ordered everyone NOT to go to work, and to unplug EVERYthing except fridges. so that it prevented surges.

I turned on the air last night when I came home from Acton. About 3AM I work up in sweating in my room, so I stripped and went into the living room where the air was just beginning to get the place cool.

ahhh that was nice!

They were upset at work because many employees didn't sign in on Friday morning. (I work day shift, 5:30AM to 2:00PM)

The plant was dark as dark can be Friday AM. It was of course not operational with no power whatsoever. There was no one making themselves visible with any sign-in list. I guess we were supposed to sign in before we went back home.

I felt like a dummy driving down there to begin with, but hey maybe they had power. I couldn't know for sure until I got there. I called, and did eventually get voice mail after about 15 or 20 rings. So I thought the plant might be open.

And to top it off, our Governor declared the area to be under "Civil Emergency" with a dusk to dawn curfew so myself and others shouldn't have even been on the road at that time in the morning.

General Motors at it's finest.
