That one is really confusing because a Sine wave is a waveform, as is a square wave, a PWM signal, etc.

That's why I asked. I did a little Googleing but it didn't seem to fit any of the descriptions.

I assumed it was a pure sine wave unit because it was double conversion.

I've bought most of my units refurb and it's just a out of production unit.

One thing I hadn't anticipated with this type of unit, is that it needs a continous fan because it's constantly charging the battery even with no load.

double conversion just means it takes the AC, convert to DC, then convert back to AC. Doesn't guarantee true sine wave. True since wave is expensive and unless you got a delicate instrument, chances are you don't need that.

Very few online UPS use anything but pure sine wave since they are 99% of the time made compatible with generators. Generators often can destroy equipment that is plugged into a non pure sine wave ups since the cheaper interactive ups require the AC frequency to remain stable and it almost never is with a generator.

I don't think I want to put another bulb through this AE900U. I have a slight vertical banding problem that has gradually become the bane of my movie watching experience.

I'll certainly get some power protection before I hook up a new projector or put a new bulb in this one though.

I'm a bit late in this, but isn't that a sign of a ground loop??

It's been a problem with the panasonics that has been getting better. The vertical banding I'm talking about isn't a distortion that runs up and down the screen, but rather a variation in brightness of vertical bands of the green LCD panel in the projector. I can use the service menu to do adjustments on it, but the best results I've been able to get are not perfect. I can adjust the panel to give me vertical bars / lines of slight color variation between about 3" in width down to about 1/2" in width. It is most apparent in large white / gray colored areas when there is panning going on. If I adjust the blue and red panels, I can reproduce the same problem on them, but I am able to get those panels adjusted to eliminate the banding on them. With the green one, I reach the end of the service menu options before the banding disappears. If I had 2-3 more steps on the scale, I think I could eliminate it.

It's not viewable most of the time, but when it's there it has become quite a distraction. This is a major reason why I don't want to put another bulb through this thing unless I have to.

So what you are saying is, you need a new projector instead of a UPS :)

Well yes, but I don't want to buy a new projector yet.

Need Smeed, I didn't buy a VRaptor because I needed it.

That's what I wanted to hear. I thought because the output was coming from a battery, it had to be a pure sine wave. That's what I get for thinking!

I'm going to email Powerware and get their take on the subject.

That would only guarantee a pure DC with no ripple. But then the circuits take the DC and convert that back to AC, usually with a transformer versus transformerless used in line interactive models, which is another reason pure sine wave cost more.

But by running the inverter always off of DC they are guaranteed a certain voltage always, you can't do that with line interactive supplies.

With the other power issues, a ground loop seemed like a good possibility. Thanks for the details, that rules it out.

I heard from Powerware;

True sine wave and waveform sine wave are the same thing. It is all in the terminology. It is the type of wave form you would see from the city electric grid. It is what that you find in your home.

I dunno if this helps or if the end prices are comparable to online prices, but I popped into my local Tweeter yesterday to meet the guys (first time there) and check out the store - he said that all of their power conditioning stuff (Panamax) is already 40% off and hopefully will get better than that. They said that they'll be closed in 4-6 weeks, so I'll probably drop by once a week just to see if there's anything good.

Holy crap! Is Tweeter going under? The closest one to me is about an hour and change away, but I'll make the trip the weekend if they are.

I have 2 deals lined up for tonight - I'll post about them after I've bought them. I would wait a few weeks as the early on sales won't really be worth it.

If I see anything that catches my eye tonight, I"ll let you know.

Sounds like it's already worth it if you have 2 deals.

I want a Panamax, and would bite on an outstanding speaker deal too.

Well I didn't want to post my deals earlier in fear that somehow, someone in Phoenix would swoop in and steal my deals (paranoid, I know). Now that I'm back, here's what I got

1x Shure E500PTH for $118!!!
1x Velodyne SPL1000IIb for $198!!! (This one's a gift for a friend)

All I can say is hooooooot damn. (hoot?)

If anyone watching this thread is interested in an APC H15 that I bought 2.5 months ago (it's being used right now, so it's not NIB, but I have all of the original packaging, documentation and it's never even been registered yet), PM me - they had a Panamax UPS that I will jump on if I can sell the APC unit.

I am one happy man. ^_^

Dammit man, you're going to make me drive to my local Tweeter. :|

Well if you find any good deals, you can PM me then and tell me how happy you are. I swear I didn't stop smiling on the way home. Problem with being an audio nut is that there aren't many people you can call to share the news with :( :D

The price you got the E500PTH for is stunning. I must go now.

Yoyo, I'll pickup a UPS for you if they still have them. You would just have to pay for shipping
& for the item at what ever they are selling it for. Let me know if you want to do this.

lol, shipping for UPS will kill off any sale price advantage.

yeah those things are pretty heavy :(

Although at 70% off ($300 final price) the M1500UPS by panamax is not too shabby!

I did notice my lights flickering yesterday again (this time without absurd volumes coming from the bar), but I think I'm pretty sure that a UPS would be a good idea now.

Would the M1500UPS for $300 plus shipping be the best deal for me?

Entirely dependent on shipping cost doesn't it?

Yep. In the past I've usually assumed about $1 per pound. I don't know if that still holds true or not. $360 is certainly more than I wanted to spend though.

You can go to ups.com to get the shipping cost. $300 is more than I want to spend too. Is that their lowest model?
