yoyo, has the brownouts ever happen during the time the bar is not open?

I have not noticed it, but I haven't actually been awake at my apartment much while the bar is not open. It stays open until 2am or later at night. My chance to look would be when I get up before it opens, but I have not been looking for it in the morning (usually don't need to turn on my lights)

So... I don't know.

I suspect the bar is wrecking your power.

Yes, I need to dust and reorganize my cables.

I think I should have had a partner for placing that thing in the rack. Placing that 65 pound beast carefully in the middle of the shelf evenly took a bit of effort.

Cool! Yeah, I couldn't make it to Tweeter afterall, I take it that unit was from Tweeter?

I don't know. I don't have a serial port on the back of my new computer to hook up to it to get the readout for input/output voltage and all the other goodies. My old computer has a serial port, but I don't have an optical drive in it (I transferred the drive to the new computer), so I can't install the software off the disc :p

My lights were not flickering last night, so I don't think there was a problem last night either.

The AVR symbol did not light up on the unit to indicate that it was compensating for an overvoltage or undervoltage condition.

You can get a USB to serial cable from walmart for about $15. Radio shack also sells them, but theirs was $20.
I needed one to upgrade the firmware of my preamp, and didn't want wait to order one.

I have a question on the 1500. Mines gets very warm, but the fan never kicks on. Is yours the same?

It also goes over to battery when I first turn everything on. I'm thinking it's because of the inital power drain, as it doesn't last long, but I'm not sure, because the low voltage light never comes on.

I only have the pre-pro connected to it right now so it has hardly any load on it. The fan on mine is off right now, I know it went on when I first powered it up though. It's barely warm with the DVD player right over it, but maybe that's because it has such a low load?

When I turn the pre-pro on it does not go to battery, but that very well could happen once I hook more things up to it.

Since I didn't have a car, and the thing weighed like 60lbs, I ducked out. I'm glad BostonDangler was able to help :p

Yeah, 65 pounds. I wouldn't want to walk very far carrying one.

Considering I'd have to carry it about 11 blocks :D

I hope it works out! But, I do feel strongly that if management doesn't fix the circuits, it may not really fix the issue completely.

Do you plan on hooking the rest of your gear to it?

I have my amp, pre-pro, projector, blu-ray player, HDDVR, & external hard drive, and I'm just at the 25% load mark.

Using a power conditioner/UPS - even a very high quality one - is discouraged as a corrective aid against chronic power feed anomalies. The purpose of conditioners/UPS is to guard against temporary changes in power supply specification due to neighboring devices and/or disruptions and anomalies due to weather or line workers, etc.

I'd recommend having a qualified electrician and/or person trained in mains power supply problems check everything from the premise service entrance down to the branch circuit(s) you are experiencing the issues on.

Remember AVR uses a buck/boost winding on a conditioning transformer and the further the incoming voltage deviates the harder this part works. It's not designed for full buck/boost (the latter is more important) duty continuous! Of course if it falls outside the programmed range (usually >15%) the unit will run its inverter.

The projector bulb was mainly what I was worried about so that's what I was going to connect. I hooked up the pre-pro just to check to make sure the battery was working fine.

I was not planning on hooking my amp or any high power items up to it.

Well the process to get things checked out is in progress. I have not heard back from them about the status of the situation again yet. I'll shoot them another e-mail.

roger that!

what is the wattage for the projector, and is there a recommended range for the power supply? max is 1200VA?

I believe my projector is about 200 watts and the capacity of the M1500 is 1000 watts.

Just wanted to bump this thread and thank people for the advice again.

My lights have been flickering quite a bit tonight and my Panamax's voltage regulation light has been going on and off while I've been watching my projector tonight.

RE: Video
Is the bulb in that fixture incandescent or compact fluorescent? If it's CFL it won't show the flickering nearly as bad due to regulation. Put an incandescent bulb in there and you'd really see dips, sags, and boosts in voltage - all which are bad and could indicate a serious mains wiring issue. (if all circuits exhibit this behavior)

Anytime, I hoped I helped a bit.

Sounds like you still have 20 unidentified breaker boxes in your basement. :frown:

When I moved here, I made sure the power company and the contractor hooked me up properly, and even spent a lot more and had them bury my power supply line running to my house. The biggest problem I have here is intermittant line noise from people using power tools and air compressors next door. If it wasn't for a decent power conditioner, I would almost be afraid to use my PCs, LCD TVs or my HTs. Without the conditioners, you can see and hear the line noise. I think if the neighbors were hooked into another power line transformer, this problem would be a lot less. But I'm also hooked directly into the same transformer.

And on a side note, I had an older friend tell me one day how nearly every electrical item in his house was burning up randomly, including brand new bulbs burning out, and it was costing him a fortune to replace these items, like most of his appliances and heating and air conditioning. He said he even had his circuit breaker box burn up a few times. I asked him what type of power transformer and outside wiring he used, and he said it was a buried cable and he had one of those giant green transformers on the ground on his property next to his house. I told him to call the power company and have them check the transformer box, and even watch them working on it, and take pictures if they replaced any parts inside it. And to use those pictures to file a claim against the power company for a faulty transformer, because it sure sounded like it was. But those ground transformers they use are at least 3 or 4 times more powerful than the pole mounted varieties, and they power 3 or 4 times as many houses, too.

And he said he had litterally spent over 25k replacing electrical items since he moved into this new home in 5 years time. Dunno what happened after that, I hadn't spoke to him again about it. But I bet the power company had sticker shock when he filed that claim against them.
