I think John Danforth will replace him.

Powell's undoing was going to the UN. He should have ignored the UN like Clinton did in the Balkans.

I'm sure others will disagree... but that's what he does, it'll just make me think even less of him than the last four years of cowtowing have. If he was opposed to the policies of this administration, he should have made that opposition known prior to the election and resigned then. His writing an anti-Bush administration book, now, will demonstrate that he kept his mouth shut about perceived injustices just long enough to to allow them to continue for another term; and it will only further prove that he is a man who cannot be counted on to stand up for his principles.

I am going to withhold judgment until Powell resurfaces in his next assignment. I will restore the respect I once had for him if he becomes the head of an organization that works for the good of society as opposed to a position with a defense contractor.

I have a problem with an administration that is mixing government and religion. If an ordained minister can serve without forcing his religion on Americans, no problem. But, judging from past experience with the religious zealots in the Bush administration (Asscroft comes to mind), I seriously doubt that Bush, or any members of his administration, will separate the two.

Would you have any problem with an ordained Imam serving in the cabinet?

 
Well if Danforth happened to be a Christian Zionist it certainly would have an impact on the perception of the US by the rest of the world. Not to mention the impact it would have on the upcoming peace "negotiations" between the Palestinians and Israel.

Fortunately it seems as if Episcopals are a bit more moderate in their Christian views but you never know.

Not really. I also wouldn't have a problem with a black, a hispanic, a Jew, a homosexual, a woman, etc. (or combinations thereof) so long as they were qualified.

I don't give a rat's ass if they go to church or not. You can find just as many athiestic nut jobs.

Powell was the one voice that raised serious (and justified) objections to the Iraqi war. He is being replaced because he isn't a "team player". What Bush wants is someone who will yes him to death. That is what he has always wanted.

"If you aren't for me you are against me" has always been GWB's motto.

Time to reward his Evangelical Base for his Annointment.

Specter is not going to be picked because he 'Cautioned' Bush on the Abortion Rights issue,
Danforth will be used in some capacity - he is, and always has been a Religious Activist within
the workings of the GOP, and is often used as a 'Go-To Guy' by Bush to get a Religious slant
put on a crirical doctrine when things go bad in foriegn countries, look at his history.
Point Man for the GOP invertigation at Waco with the Branch Davidians and their Fire Worshiping Cult,
and US Ambassador to Sudan with the turmoil there over Christians Vs. Arabs.
