Your mistake was when you tried to do something.
Don't try to do anything, ever.

Wow, that sucks!

I've used Personal Creations, http://www.personalcreations.com/, in the past for custom houseware and gifts. So if you're still interested in personalized stockings, go to the "Christmas" tab (they're quoting the earliest arrival date as Thursday, Dec 17). To receive the 25% discount they're offering today, enter "PCGIFT25" during checkout process, otherwise their 10% discount code is "SRCH10OFF". :)

I've never understood Pottery Barn, most of their stuff (especially the furniture) to me looks like cheap Chinese junk sold for 3x what nice American made items would cost at other places. Maybe I just don't understand the style.

The furniture is pretty nice quality, and half the price of actual American made furniture I have seen. I have looked at cheaper places, where you can get the lowend Chinese junk (there are a lot of cheap furniture places in the bay area), pottery barn stuff is generally higher quality.

That, and they stand by their stuff 100%. My MIL had purchased an ottoman, and after a year of use one of the legs just snapped off. The store nearby simply asked her to bring it in, and they gave her a brand new one free of charge.

We're currently waiting for their 'buy more save more' sale to come back, so we can purchase a #@$% load of dining room furniture.

Welcome to the coalition beast.

That and the Al Bundy response are why I love this place. Socrates and Plato? Morons!

You should have tracked down a local Bangladeshi seamstress and had her make one for you from scratch for half the price.

It doesn't surprise me that their customer service is terrible.
This Pottery Barn sells cheap junk at insane mark ups and there designs are nothing special at all. Better off at Target, same quality and often better.

Have to disagree with you 100% there. Target makes excellent dorm furniture, at best.

In the future, buy such customized things from a crafter on Etsy. The product will be FAR superior, handmade and will truly be unique.

Wish I saw this a month ago. Totally forgot about etsy. I got my daughter a Mjölnir pendant from Amazon. It's nice, but looking on etsy, I see some I like a bit better. Oh well. I'm happy with what I got, and it was from an etsy-like seller, but I'll try to keep them in mind for next time.

I've found Crate & Barrel to have pretty high mark-ups, but I love their stuff.

Your < 1y/o son will never forgive you for this failure and turn to a life of crime/crime fighting/annoying let's play videos on youtube, whichever would piss you off the most. Congrats.

My latest experience with Dell.com completely reinforced the fact that I will support my local retailers. I feel ya man.

I would love to find these nice American made items for 1/3 the price of pottery barn. Please share

Most of the stuff I've bought recently "made in the USA" has been even worse than the foreign stuff.
