Pottery Barn sucks - never shopping with them again

november 30th i placed an order for 3 stockings, all personalized, for my wife, myself, and my son, whom this is his first christmas. the estimated delivery date was december 6th - decmeber 9th. and these stocking weren't cheap - it was $90 for 3 stockings, personalized, after a 25% coupon. they were like $40 a piece normally.

come december 11th, i hadn't heard anything from them or received anything. so i sent them an email last friday (12/11) about it then called them later that day to speak to someone.

they told me they were sorry for the delay but they were having more orders than expected, and that it would ship out by sunday (12/13) at the latest. i then asked if i could get upgraded to overnight shipping and they told me they changed it.

then over the weekend i received an email reply stating the order will go out asap blah blah. i ignored it because i already spoke to someone on the phone.

this morning i got a shipping confirmation finally. it shipped out this morning, and it's 3 day UPS delivery, with expected delivery the 17th.

so i replied to the email they sent to me and just told them that i'm unhappy with their service and i was promised it would ship out by the 13th and i would receive overnight shipping, and neither of those happened.

she then replied that she was sorry and knows an apology won't help, but my order will arrive on the 17th.

she THEN told me that the order only included 1 stocking, and that one of them is still processing and will ship by tomorrow, and that the last one (which happens to be my sons) is out of stock and will not be back in stock so they will refund me my money for that one.

this is pretty unacceptable service IMO and i will not be doing business with them again. i told them to cancel my whole order at this point (not sure how that will be handled since they already shipped a stocking) and if they won't do it i'm going to contact amex and see if i can do a chargeback and just not accept delivery of the item.

just putting this out there to let people know of their crappy service.

You're part of the unwashed masses of the middle class. Pottery Barn doesn't give a shit about you or your coupons and demands. ;)

I'd return all 3 and tell them to shove it when they inevitably say you can't return a custom item.

Then I'd go to the dollar store get some big stockings and art supplies and do it up all crafty.

they have told me so far they can't cancel the one they shipped, and the other one is "processing" so it may not be able to be canceled.

for the processing one their reasoning was 'orders process within 24 hours of ordering and we may not be able to cancel them at this time' yet they have taken over 2 weeks to even get it created and shipped. no way that order was 'processed' in 24 hours.

i just told them to either cancel them all or i'll contact my cc company and have them do a chargeback. i also asked them for corporate's information so i can contact them.

fuck them.

In the future, buy such customized things from a crafter on Etsy. The product will be FAR superior, handmade and will truly be unique.

I've never understood Pottery Barn, most of their stuff (especially the furniture) to me looks like cheap Chinese junk sold for 3x what nice American made items would cost at other places. Maybe I just don't understand the style.

It doesn't surprise me that their customer service is terrible.

Yeah, I'm going to start doing this more. I bought some animal hat/scarf combo things from etsy for my friends kids. Wasnt cheap, but the person I ordered from made them from scratch after I ordered and they showed up 11 days later. Not bad.

this. I was going to say that ordering from Etsy will ensure your product is made by someone in the US as opposed to a sweat shop in China. But that is no longer true

yeah i've gotten stuff from people off etsy and liked it.

but my wife just liked these stockings and i didn't really care so we got them.

well they finally caved and refunded me all of my money so that is good, but they lost a customer forever. my wife likes some of their stuff too but she said fuck them too.

No, it's still true. You just have to know how to shop :)

what do you want them to do, start up production again for your one stocking?

Have a real time inventory system? You know it is 2015. Or at least a system that doesn't take 2 weeks to notify someone it was out of stock.

Companies want to make the money off of time sensitive objects, but they don't want to be head responsible for being time sensitive.

i was never notified from them that the item was out of stock. i would have no clue it was never going to be fulfilled unless i contacted them. they said that yesterday (12/13) is when they refunded me due to the item being out of stock. had i not contacted them, i would be waiting for an item that was never going to arrive.

That is pretty shitty service. Unacceptable from a company like PB. Hopefully they will do you right by refunding you all your money and giving you some kind of credit for wasting your time and lying to you.

here's the shipping confirmation i received from them today. i assumed all 3 were in the shipment, since you know, that's what i ordred, and you know, it also says "OTHER ITEMS IN YOUR ORDER".

http://i.imgur.com/hzrdK9z.png

but then on 2nd glance, you see the (original) estimated delivery date on the 1st "other" item, and then you see "out of stock" on the 2nd other item.

no email about them canceling it and refunding me because it was out of stock. and no update on the other one that says i should have had it delivered a week ago.

Well to their defense, if you read closely at the other two items, it shows estimated delivery status on them. Still shitty though, so hope you get compensated.

yeah, shows estimated delivery date of last monday, and an out of stock on an item i ordered 2 weeks ago. neither of those statuses are helpful or informative.

and tbh, i never even looked at any of those details once i saw the tracking number, because the lady on the phone told me friday that my order was shipping by sunday. silly me to assume that it meant all 3 stockings and what she really meant was just 1 would ship that day, and 1 was out of stock and was never going to ship, and 1 would ship when they finally got around to it.

You made the classic mistake, trying to step in and do the womens chores. Somehow it'll be all your fault. Next time let her handle all that shopping crap and remember when it comes to getting ready for the holidays, this is your job :D:
