Well, I personally put my school under the company field :p And as job, system builder (because I actually do the job while I'm in school). I actually read every small letter on the main page, registration page, and order page, but nowhere says about the limitation.

When I registered, I just put that I was affilliated with UIUC (Univ. Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)...

I went to one of Microsoft's seminars on the TabletPC in Chicago ~2 years ago -- they (microsoft especially) gives out a ton of free stuff -- you can leave early, but if you wait after the end, you can pick up lots of cool stuff (anything from USB drives to copies of Windows Server). Seminars & lectures are kind of boring, but hey.

Which bundle should I get? I'm thinking the dual opteron would be the better "deal" so I might jump in on that. Can the motherboard take standard x16 video cards?

Sweet! Tampa! I registered but I can't seem to find where exactly the location will be where this is held at.

Both bundles are NFR

In that case, $250 isn't even that amazing of a deal. CPU and mobo are worth around $320-330 right now, and I'm pretty sure the price will come down quite a bit by July 19th; NFR XP is worth next to nothing.

Well, Seattle here I come. Only an hour away and a good reason to get out of the house and take the day off work. Still haven't decided which package to get, probably the dual opteron since I have a 3200+ setup right now. Sweet deal, thanks OP!!

I'll be at the Chicago Show. Anyone know the deal with the Windows packages? OEM/Retail, how about resale opportunities?

EDIT: Just ordered 1 of each package. Thanks OP.

Desktop Bundle - Price = $250
? AMD Athlon? 64 3200+ 939 pin processor
? Asus A8N-E Socket 939 motherboard
? Microsoft® Windows® XP x64 Edition

Server Bundle - Price = $500
? 2 - AMD Opteron? 246 CPUs
? Tyan Thunder K8SD Pro (S2882-D) motherboard
? Microsoft Server 2003 x64 Edition

Edit: Just to compare I priced the server bundle from NewEgg at $1,012!!! (S2882G3NR not S2882-D at NewEgg)

Only catch is you can reserve your bundle online but must attend the tech tour to pick up. I'd highly recommend going though because I went to one of these things in Boston and my friend I went with won a free processor. Probably 25% of the people who went got something decent like a top of the line processor and almost everyone left with a free t-shirt. Check it out!

Is there an entrance fee?

Why do you say that? Is there a difference in the feature of retail XP and NFR XP?

I think the Tyan mobo in that combo only supports PCI-X slots, not PCI Express (there's a difference). AFAIK there are no PCI-X graphics cards.

But if I was planning on actually using it, there would be no difference, right? I mean, it works the same as the retail version, correct?

as far as i know they just say the bundle is not for resale, it has nothing to do with the parts they are including. i work for ASI and have never seen any operating systems cd's that are not for resale, or have something of that sort printed on the license or cd itself.
