You guys that registered, are you affiliated with a company? If not what did you put under the Company Name and address fields?

Well, I personally put my school under the company field 😛 And as job, system builder (because I actually do the job while I'm in school). I actually read every small letter on the main page, registration page, and order page, but nowhere says about the limitation.

When I registered, I just put that I was affilliated with UIUC (Univ. Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)...

I went to one of Microsoft's seminars on the TabletPC in Chicago ~2 years ago -- they (microsoft especially) gives out a ton of free stuff -- you can leave early, but if you wait after the end, you can pick up lots of cool stuff (anything from USB drives to copies of Windows Server). Seminars & lectures are kind of boring, but hey.

Which bundle should I get? I'm thinking the dual opteron would be the better "deal" so I might jump in on that. Can the motherboard take standard x16 video cards?

register for the Chicago show....now I have to decide which combo i should get....although I am an Intel fans but it is too good to pass.

Are those retail versions of XP Pro, or some NFR junk?

Both bundles are NFR

Software and hardware

In that case, $250 isn't even that amazing of a deal. CPU and mobo are worth around $320-330 right now, and I'm pretty sure the price will come down quite a bit by July 19th; NFR XP is worth next to nothing.

Well, Seattle here I come. Only an hour away and a good reason to get out of the house and take the day off work. Still haven't decided which package to get, probably the dual opteron since I have a 3200+ setup right now. Sweet deal, thanks OP!!

I'll be at the Chicago Show. Anyone know the deal with the Windows packages? OEM/Retail, how about resale opportunities?

EDIT: Just ordered 1 of each package. Thanks OP.

I just got an email from AMD telling me that the AMD / Microsoft Tech Tour will soon be in my area. I went to www.amd.com/techtour and found details on a great deal on AMD64/Mobo/XP x64 edition. Here they are:

Desktop Bundle - Price = $250
? AMD Athlon? 64 3200+ 939 pin processor
? Asus A8N-E Socket 939 motherboard
? Microsoft® Windows® XP x64 Edition

Server Bundle - Price = $500
? 2 - AMD Opteron? 246 CPUs
? Tyan Thunder K8SD Pro (S2882-D) motherboard
? Microsoft Server 2003 x64 Edition

Edit: Just to compare I priced the server bundle from NewEgg at $1,012!!! (S2882G3NR not S2882-D at NewEgg)

Only catch is you can reserve your bundle online but must attend the tech tour to pick up. I'd highly recommend going though because I went to one of these things in Boston and my friend I went with won a free processor. Probably 25% of the people who went got something decent like a top of the line processor and almost everyone left with a free t-shirt. Check it out!

Is there an entrance fee?

Why do you say that? Is there a difference in the feature of retail XP and NFR XP?

Don't you have to work in the i.t. field to register?

nvm

is the deal in US currency? when i go to the page, they just say 250, the processor sells for 250 canadian though in stores in toronto?

How good is the asus board?

nice catch definitely going to the dallas one.

their dual opteron could save me around $700 if i purchased them retail, but i dont really need them..but then again once a blue moon savings...
hmm i wonder if their 3200 is a venice core though...

dual 246 or single 3200????

I think the Tyan mobo in that combo only supports PCI-X slots, not PCI Express (there's a difference). AFAIK there are no PCI-X graphics cards.

Retail XP Pro will easily fetch $150 or more on ebay, NFR can't be sold.

But if I was planning on actually using it, there would be no difference, right? I mean, it works the same as the retail version, correct?

as far as i know they just say the bundle is not for resale, it has nothing to do with the parts they are including. i work for ASI and have never seen any operating systems cd's that are not for resale, or have something of that sort printed on the license or cd itself.
