How much do they charge for that?

edit: Wait.. when you say hotspot, are you saying you are connected to one of their wifi hotspots, not using the actual 4G network for that usage?

$30 for data, $30 for hotspot. You can take off the hotspot if you decide to root your phone.

Im running off my Galaxy Nexus.

I usually use around 100GB a month. Have netflix and Amazon prime so a lot of streaming goes on. No illegal D/Ls.

How do you guys get those graphs? Do you all use custom firmware?

Many routers include usage graphs in their default firmware. Several in this thread, including mine, are thirdparty firmware such as DD-WRT or Tomato. Others are using tools offered by the ISP directly.

Thanks. Going to go check my default firmware out. :)

I've had DUMeter since back when I had DSL and was getting dropped often so I used it to see if I suddenly d/c. It keeps track of usage too. For January it looks like 134GB down and 70GB up.

Since 1/1/2008, I've transferred 2.8TB down and 3.1TB up = 5.9TB. I'm surprised Vista64 has been stable enough all these years that I haven't needed to blow it up and start over.

I think my FIOS actiontech router is lieing to me. It's claiming that I have only used 3GB in 45 days but I'm certain I have downloaded much more that that. I downloaded 9GB from Technet alone this past week and have been heavily using netflix over the past couple of months.

It's also telling me that I have only uploaded 124MB in 45 days. Considering I am runing my own mail exchange server and am heavily using remote desktop connections to the house (8 hours a day 5 days a week) 124MB seems unlikely.

Verizon doesn't seem to have a meter for FIOS, but there is no cap either.

Comcast says that I've averaging 90 GB to 130 GB a month. I'd imagine that most of that is Netflix.

I'm curious... how much would the cable company pay for that amount of bandwidth on their back end? I'd like to know how badly they're screwing me.

Just a note:

While you may measure that much, your provider probably won't record that much traffic as routers tend to use a lot of site to site compression.

Still, I have no idea how someone could use 10GB in a weekend much less 90.

I average about 140GB down and 10-20GB up depending on how much streaming like netflix I do in a month or if some new game comes out and I do a digital purchase. My ISP doesn't start to notify people till they break the 250GB range so I am way below.

Netflix estimates their cost as 5 cents for every 2GB they transfer as a movie. So your 130GB would be $3.25 cost for someone that buys in bulk. Yeah we all know telecom screws the consumer, always has since the breakup. Cell phone providers are the worst, estimates are around 1/10 of a cent per minute their cost.

I don't have wired, but with my wireless I probably average about 30-50 GB per month the last few months. Mainly because of steam and buying video games for the kid. L4D, L4D2, Dungeon Defenders, Orcs Must Die, Star Trek Online, all those add up.

You're a smart guy, ever just vegged out and watched movies all weekend? 10GB can be easily done in a day with Netflix's HD and a Xbox 360.

OK, so who watches 10 hrs worth of movies on a weekend?

I have on several occasions. I don't have cable and use netflix and hulu for a large part of my tv viewing. It is also easy to do if there is a tv series you want to catch up on . Netflix added all the star treks, that is hundreds of episodes. They just added supernatural, which I think has 140+ episodes. When you start watching a series and want to know what happens next, 10 hours is nothing in a weekend. LOST is another good example.
