If you send a resume to our recruiting agency and it has been sent to a half dozen other agencies, it will be deleted. If you're an entry level employee, it will be deleted. If you call to check and see if we got your resume, we probably got it, looked it over, decided it was good for nothing, and put it in our database on the offchance that someday someone will want your skills. If you call three times and the person you want to speak to is busy, he's not, you just call too much and he has no news for you, you will not get through to him.

Not dirty secrets but please people, take a hint!

my friend that works at mcdonalds says that thers cow fat in the fries and a friend that worsk for taco bell says that the sour cream on the fry supremes is actually sour creme from the Dairy Farm company but mixed with a little bit milk.

For the love of god people, if you need special meals for a flight, please give them more notice than 10 minutes before departure. Makes a lot more work for me and adds a lot of extra fees for the airline

Worked in a VA hospital, research division for a time. Minor radioactive isotopes like sulpher and phosphorus are dumped down the sink into the missouri 🙂

Telemarketers cannot hang up on you, otherwise it would be like a prank call. they are required to stay on the line until YOU hang up. In practice, you can keep a telemarketer on the phone for hours on end. My record? 4 hours till I got even more bored.

If you don't tip the bellhop, he WILL take any opportunity to crush any luggage you leave with him, tip him before he walks off with your bags. Give a bellhop $20 for carrying your bag and he will stow away dead bodies for you.

The concierge desk/bellstand are given kickbacks for reccomending certain restaraunts. If you ask them for a good place to eat, you'll get the list of people who pay by the head 🙂 Oh yeah, they'll make the reservations for you later too . . . this applies to certain cab services, limos, and anything else they do . . . that's how the concierge gets so well connected 🙂

the one I'd like to hear about are mechanic chains like Jiffy lube . . . someone confirm the rumors . . .

I worked in the medical field, in surgery specifically, for 5 years. I could write a book, but this subject is always a little touchy because some people are under some mistaken impression that, in order to work in the medical field, you must be perfect, never make mistakes, never have any faults or flaws, and that you're supposed to work 12 hours in a high stress environment without ever cracking a joke or laughing.

So...I decline to tell any secrets

as a bellman at a busy local hotel, that could be the truest thing i've ever heard (although i have yet to crush anyones luggage, i just leave it and walk away like i dont even know your there, or simply leave it in the carport as i take it out of the shuttle)

I work at a hotel, too. Front Desk.
Here's a few tips for the not so well traveled.

Don't expect the same low rate you got in the middle of January
to be available in height of the tourist season (Summer).
A copy of your receipt from a Winter stay will not help either.
Rates are beased on Supply and Demand. Something that
some people dont understand.

Also, not every hotel in a particular chain has the same rates.
That cheap rate you got in Wyoming will not be the same in a big city.

Every hotel does not have "honeymoon suites" with jacuzzis in the rooms
and heart shaped beds with red velet-blankets. Go to "The Love Shack" in Las Vegas
or something.

If the dude at the front desk quotes you a rate that you think is a little high, don't
threaten to go to the EconoLodge across the street. You will go over there and see that their rate
is not much cheaper and their hotel looks like crap, and doesn't have a pool or bar, so you
will come back to my hotel asking to get the room. I either tell you that I'm sold out or
you will find that the rate has gone up quite a bit since your first inquiry.

In order to get the best rate, book reservations on the Internet at the hotels website.
Go with the lowest rate you see regardless if you are a member of the club listed for the discount
(AAA, AARP, etc.) Most likely you will not be asked for proof. And if you do, say you lost your card.
Don't expect to get a really cheap rate walking-in and negotiating the day of your arrival.

If you have to get a room without reservation, pick up the Coupon Books at Welcome Centers or fast-food restaurants along the highway.
They generally have the best rates but are only available when the hotel is in need of business.
If you see a full parking lot and packed lobby when you check in, you will probably not be able
to use the coupon. They do say "based on availability" on the coupon.

Lastly, be nice to the desk person. If you have a special request like first floor
room or to be close to the lobby, don't demand it. Just ask nicely and
you will probably get it.

I heard that the 30 cent (or whatever) burgers that mc donalds have in wednesdays are one week old burgers.
They get new shipment every Thursday.... :Q

Also Mc donalds dont have real eggs, the egg yolks are all mushed up together in a big plastic bag.

I don't know about the week old burgers statement, but I bet Micky D's uses powdered egg whites and egg yolks. Powdered eggs really aren't that bad.

I worked for the housing department at the University in the summers for a couple years. We ran the university as a sort of hotel for summer conventions, but we also cleaned all the student apartments to get them ready for fall.

One time (after two of the summers working there) the supervisor asked how we kept the sponges and scrubby pads that we used to clean restrooms separate from the ones we use to clean the kitchens. We all did that Homer Simpson stare. Doh! :Q😱:disgust:

LOL, or making it so you can't hear me banging my head on the desk and screaming in frustration 🙂

Actually, I should post something about engineering consulting. When you hire a consultant that works for a corporation, they have a billing rate. That billing rate (the one that shows up on your bill) is somewhere between 2.5 to 4.0 times more than the person doing the work gets paid. When I was in an engineering management class, we were taught that it was from 2.6 to 3.2. But trust me: I've seen my multiplier balloon to 4.0 when we were in a cash crunch. And the only reason it is not that high anymore is because I got a couple of annual raises.

That's sort of abstract, so here's an example. I worked for a surveyor in a really small surveying shop. I got paid about $15/hr and the client got charged about $40/hr. Supposedly this was to cover my benefits and the overhead of having an office. Since I had no benefits at this job, it was a pretty good deal for my employer. Then again, he charged his own time out at like $75/hr. The surveying field crew (2 people) was billed to the client at $110 an hour and that included equipment.

Oh yeah, consultant bill out expensive specialized equipment to recoup it's purchase price. They bill it out forever though, long after it has been all paid for by previous clients. In fact, sometimes there is a really big job that justifies buying the equipment just for that job. The client gets charged the full purchase price of the equipment, but the consultant keeps it and still bills it out on future jobs even though it was totally paid for by that big client.

I worked for a power company before too. A construction firm would build an neighborhood and come to us for getting power extended to their new subdivision. No problem. We designed a system and then added up every pole, wire, conduit and bolt and charged them the full purchase price for it. They said, "That's ridiculous! I'm creating new customers for you!" We'd say "Yeah, we used to give a price break for that but we don't anymore. We don't want to I guess." So they would pay for the equipment at the full price. But they didn't own it. We did. And if we upgraded some transformer with a bigger one, we would still sell the old one to the next developer at its full price.

<<I got paid about $15/hr and the client got charged about $40/hr.>>

Thats nothing. I've seen talent pools pay help desk guys $10/hour and charge the client $75/hour or better. Even that rate makes it hard for companies to justify a full time employee on staff. Have you seen what it costs to hire someone these days? They made little profit off that $40/hr than you probably thought.

my uncle used to work at UPS, and they literally dont care how they treat your package, as long as it gets to its destination, let the company (UPS) deal with the customer and the insurance claim.

Another thing about UPS... My friend (yes really, I would NEVER work there, it's way below my standard) worked at UPS and he works in the belly of the plane loading boxes and stuff.

Well, what happens is someone outside the plane would toss a box at him. He and another worker or two would catch it and stack it down. Normally, what happens is one guy would catch it and throw it to someone else, or kick it to the other guy. Ask them if they care what the contents are. Fragile boxes get worse treatment!

On some of the boxes, if they get the chance to look at the lables, they'll specifically look for certain companies or types of companies. Companies as computer companies, jewelers, etc. Anything that could be a small item with high value. If the box isn't taped well enough and they can stick their hands between the flaps of the boxes, they will!

So be careful when shipping items! Use MORE tape around the box and seal it tight! :Q

This thread was inspried by my local radio station today.

I know AT people come from all walks of life and would be good to know what goes on in the back ground on where you work.

I'll start with a few so you get the idea.

I used to work at the Bakery, and at the front of the case where all the pastry are, the freshly baked stuff is in the front while the day old stuff is in the back.

My friend used to work at KFC and he tells me the way they make the BBQ Chicken is that, they use the Extra Crispy Chicken that they can't sell and soak them in water over night, and the next day, when the workers come in, they dump a load of BBQ sauce in it and then reheat it.

I think we all know this one, my uncle used to work at UPS, and they literally dont care how they treat your package, as long as it gets to its destination, let the company (UPS) deal with the customer and the insurance claim.

I think you guys get the idea..

Now let em all out!!

=)

I hate it when companies don't give a sh!t about their customers satisfaction.

Yep, they do... people behind the scenes simply don't care. Not that I blame 'em, 'cept for the UPS guys. That kinda pisses me off.
