Post-vacation nightmare

Two weeks ago the wife and I spent a little over a week in New England (New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts - Cape Cod & Boston). Shortly after arriving home, we found out that the wife picked up head lice somewhere... We do vacation right and stay at nice places, so this is proof that you can run into this sort of thing anywhere.

The list of potential places we came up with where she could have gotten this crap is as follows: the airplane, the rental car, any one of several hotels, and a movie theater in Boston. After doing some reading about how they are spread, we're betting that she picked them up at the movie theater... if not there, then we figure the rental car is the next most likely place.

Ugh this majorly sucks. The poor girl is mortified. She's already treated herself with the shampoo, and every night we've been checking her only to find more of them on her scalp. Apparently these things are a bitch to get rid of.

Yes. Apparently you like them?

Their nothing to worry about, its not like you have tuberculosis or something serious. Lice like clean hair, if anything getting lice means that your a clean person. If your hair is oily or dirty, the lice can not attach to the hair

Just get some lice shampoo, and a good fine comb. After washing and drying her hair, use the comb to look for the lice.

I had lice as a kid, my kids had lice,,,, its nothing to worry about. Their a common pest that have to be dealt with.

not that easy. sometime the lice are resistant to the shampoo. also, eggs can hatch after the treatment and start the cycle all over again.

how long ago did you and your kids get lice? iirc, i think they have become more resistant to treatment as of late.

When my daughter had lice, my mom sat my daughter in a chair, and used a fine comb to look for the eggs.

My mom called the eggs "nits", they were white looking and were attached close to the scalp. After a couple of days of washing, combing, and removing the nits by hand, the lice were gone.

no wonder you thought treatment was so easy. you didn't have a part of it. 😛

Let's see... we move around a lot on vacation, so here is the list as best as I can remember it:
1. Hampton Inn, Nashua NH
2. Holiday Inn Express, Conway NH
3. Foxwoods Casino & Resort, Connecticut
4. Some small motel in Hyannis, Mass (can't remember the name)
5. Lenox Hotel, Boston

Hence the term "nit picking".

And everybody loves nitpicking so I can see why Texashiker doesn't think lice to be that big of a deal.

Lice are like any other pest, I dont think its "that" big of a deal.

The gross factor is that the lice are in your hair, you can see it and they itch. But nobody worries about the E. Coli living in their belly.

The wife has lice, its no big deal. Get a can of roach spray like amdhunters mom did, and kill those bugs.
