Went through this years ago with children in school, used the shampoo and comb, Mom had the best luck using a hairdryer, the little buggers didn't like the heat, it was far more effective than the shampoo.

I usually do not rag on people with grammar or spelling errors on a message board because it's so informal and the error is usually do to just not paying attention and being caught off guard. I am not going to rag on you, but aren't you over 30? If so, how did no one ever catch this error in the work place?

You're living in a bubble. I've worked in multiple universities and I can tell you that many professors and department heads are functional illiterates. Corporations are even worse. The problem seems to be that everyone takes short cuts even if they know better and communication is garbled or even lost because the 'short cuts' have no standard. You know, as in written language? It's depressing, demoralizing and, unprofessional.

And, someone mentioned in the older thread that they're amazed that there isn't a "cure" - think about it - you're trying to kill an animal that's living on top of another animal. There are LOTS of things that will kill all the lice and nits - problem is, those things harm the host as well.

Their nothing to worry about, its not like you have tuberculosis or something serious. Lice like clean hair, if anything getting lice means that your a clean person. If your hair is oily or dirty, the lice can not attach to the hair

Just get some lice shampoo, and a good fine comb. After washing and drying her hair, use the comb to look for the lice.

I had lice as a kid, my kids had lice,,,, its nothing to worry about. Their a common pest that have to be dealt with.

Now I'm not really a grammar nazi, but this is so outrageously bad that I have to ask if you're (you + are) doing this on purpose to get under people's skin. If so... nicely done. If not... may god help you and lice ridden children.

Probably would have worked had she not had to have a cigarette immediately afterward!

Thought: there's all sorts of dusting sprays that get rid of lice on chickens. I wonder if they're harmful to humans? Ditto other chemicals for lice; I don't know if those are harmful to humans as well. i.e. there are flea medicines for dogs that are dangerous for cats. But, I do know that some of the most effective medications for lice only get rid of one type of lice on goats - it took a 2nd type of stuff to get rid of the other type. (Biting lice vs. sucking lice.) Then again, goat lice and chicken lice are different types of lice, and I don't believe either is capable of living on human hosts.

I wouldn't be surprised if regular household solvents worked.
Turpentine and mineral spirits dissolve everything and anything. They strip paint and counter tops, they destroy linoleum floors, they dissolve plastic buckets. Acetone would probably work too. The only problem is how incredibly flammable they are.

It might cancel out the dangers if the kid is in a tub full of water when doing this. If some freak accident happens, dunk under water and the problem goes away. Oil fires float on water but acetone dissolves in water instead of forming layers.

Shaving works just as good and there's no danger at all. Do that instead.
