Rubycon your cabling job certainly put mine to shame. Gah.. wish I had such a delicate technique. :p

What RAID/SAS card are you using?

Lotsa pro audio gear and an x-fi? I've got an emu 1212m laying around I'll sell you cheap just to get that x-fi outa your otherwise incredible system. I'll even make you a connectro cable for the 1010 and 0202 cards to whatever length you want so long as I still have a spare flopy cable laying around to use.

Yep - contrary to popular belief the x-fi (elite pro card) has extremely clean output and I prefer very much to be able to control my master volume from the keyboard. Recording is done via MOTU 896HD's which btw currently have broken drivers for all x64 (WIN) operating systems addressing 4GB ram or higher. So without the X-Fi there would be no playback at all. It's hitched to an outboard DA with one optical cable so no worries of any ground loop noises creeping into the main board which would be intolerable.

Playing games on pro audio boxes is a total crapshoot whether it works or not. Some complain that the system has no audio, etc.

The alternative was onboard audio but I've never heard onboard audio that was clean and on this particular board it's defective according to others that have it. (first thing I do - well before overclocking hehe - is disable all onboard audio when starting a new system)

I'll happily take your word on it as I'm no audiofile and quite frankly I'm almost completely deaf in my right ear and can't hear certain frequencies in my left so the $200 sound card I bout a few years back was a complete waste, especially considering I went to digital coax shortly thereafter and the onboard on my NF4-DAGF sounds just fine to me.

My CM 690 (yea, I ran out of space behind the motherboard, so many molexes)
I made it fairly need even with an IDE drive.

Man, maybe I am just too lazy to do it, but my cables, every time I try (and by try, I mean not really trying) to put my cables in a good place, everything backfires....probably my case and PSU, but I feel bad after looking at some of these clean setups!

dedwards: Where are your HDDs? I see one IDE ribbon cable, but that's it? Oh don't get me wrong your cabling job is marvelous.

No problem, lopri. Someone posted in another thread - "It looks good so far, can't wait to see it when it's finished." LOL

The HDD is clearly visible in Pic1 - it just doesn't stand out because the drive is reversed to hide the wires. It's even with the top edge of the motherboard.

I removed the stock HDD cage from the floor of the case to make room for the radiator. The Lian-Li add-on drive cage is installed in the bottom 3 bays with the optical drive on top. The optical drive is hidden because it sits above the top edge of the window.

See the worklog link for more details.

On a couple of previous builds, I made the wiring fairly neat, but this time I wanted to go all out and make it as neat as possible. One trick that helped a lot - on the motherboard tray, I made a sketch of the motherboard using a Sharpie. This included the location of all the connectors - power, IDE, SATA, fans, etc. This allows you to route the wires exactly before the motherboard is installed.

I stripped down my CM690 and painted the entire inside black weekend before last. I dumped the blue ccfls for some UV ones. Here's some updated pics:

Added a 120mm in the front drive bay for better airflow across my processor:
