Lotsa pro audio gear and an x-fi? I've got an emu 1212m laying around I'll sell you cheap just to get that x-fi outa your otherwise incredible system. I'll even make you a connectro cable for the 1010 and 0202 cards to whatever length you want so long as I still have a spare flopy cable laying around to use.
Yep - contrary to popular belief the x-fi (elite pro card) has extremely clean output and I prefer very much to be able to control my master volume from the keyboard. Recording is done via MOTU 896HD's which btw currently have broken drivers for all x64 (WIN) operating systems addressing 4GB ram or higher. So without the X-Fi there would be no playback at all. It's hitched to an outboard DA with one optical cable so no worries of any ground loop noises creeping into the main board which would be intolerable.
Playing games on pro audio boxes is a total crapshoot whether it works or not. Some complain that the system has no audio, etc.
The alternative was onboard audio but I've never heard onboard audio that was clean and on this particular board it's defective according to others that have it. (first thing I do - well before overclocking hehe - is disable all onboard audio when starting a new system)
