I don't like a desktop cluttered with icons (pretty inefficient way of finding stuff when there are dozens of folders and shortcuts), but I guess I went a little too far with that, heh. I don't even need the Recycle Bin... I always Shift-Delete. I put documents or text files on the desktop every now and then of reminders or whatever.

I don't run much stuff in the tray either. No one uses ICQ anymore so I rarely bother loading Miranda. I need SetPoint running always, other than that just uTorrent, Winamp, or Daemon as needed.

Though I guess I should get a wallpaper. I have some just never bothered to put them up. I need to run the uxtheme patcher and check out if there are any new, good themes to use.

Ugh, cluttered... compared to mine.

But yeah, I have no use for desktop shortcuts as they are inconvenient and fugly compared to QuickLaunch and Toolbars for commonly used schtuff whilst leaving the rest to the start menu. It's boggling to me why folks tend not to take advantage of Toolbars -two clicks and always accessable versus three clicks for desktop shortcuts to hide desktop, open shortcut, and show desktop (or otherwise restore anything previously open).

P.S. unclutter by hiding default icons such as Recycle Bin via Display Properties or TweakUI

You sure keep alot of junk on your desktop.

The best desktop is one without any icons or folders on it.

and the discussion that followed in this thread:

I LOVE interfacelift.
Most of my wallpapers come from there. When I got my 1920x1200 display I though it might be tough finding quality pics in that size. Glad I was wrong.

It still looks the same as it did this time last year.

Although there are a few additional file icons and folders on it right now, and I've since skinned the recycle bin.

EDIT: In case anyone is wondering, that black rectangle is my Hauppauge TV viewer, in mini-mode, but the actual TV image wouldn't capture in the screen cap.
very cool
I admit it: Thats the best one ever.
Not only very clean, efficient and practical, but very intelligently done as well. Dont think I've ever seen anybody put so much thought into their desktop before and still have it come out looking so casual.
Since you said you have changed the recycle bin I am sure the new one makes your desktop an A+.
