all these image quality brings me to one things
what will the image quality difference between 7800gt 7800gtx and x1900xtx IMAGE QUALITY NOT SPEED I DONT WANT 1600*1200 well might consider it but as i always say a CONSTANT 50-60 FPS would be more than enough
can the 7800gt hit 50-60 at 1600*1200 in Farcry, Doom 3,Quake 4, HL2

The image quality is better. I cant say this from personnal experience. But I have seen screens rendered on both cards and the ATi image is better.....Ill see if I can find that review....

You cannot prove this from screenshots

ATI has less shimmering, that is the ONLY difference. If anything NVIDIA's AA quality is better. That I CAN say from experience

I can tell it from screen shots....Look at these two pics of the same spot in HL2.

ATi... http://www.bit-tech.net/content_images/...hire_radeon_x1800xl/x1800xl-16hqaf.jpg

Nvidia... http://www.bit-tech.net/content_images/sapphire_radeon_x1800xl/7800gt-16afhq.jpg

Look where the crosshair's are...

You really need to get away from the obsession with graphics. If a game's good and the graphics are okay then what's the problem? The difference in image quality is pretty small between ATI/NV. Some people prefer the way certain games are rendered on one card and some people on another card.

Who buys a game based only on the quality of the graphics? That's just plain daft. o_O

I dont buy games based on graphics. I buy games based on gameplay and storyline. However, I do buy graphics cards based on how they render those games. Which is this case, was the X18XL. I almost bought the 7800 GT CO....based on the speed of the card. Yea, it is faster in most benches. But I dont buy graphics chip's to bench. Just a few of the games I bought lately has been, AOE 3, NFS-MW, COD2, Q4, D3, Max Payne 1 and 2, Unreal 04, HL2, and Chaos Theory. If people preferred how games were rendered on each card, would there be fanboys ? Im not a fanboy, Ive never owned an NV card. But that will not hanker my decision to pick up a 7900 GT over a X19XL. And I agree, the difference is pretty small. But if i'm going to pay $300+ for a graphics card, I want what will render those games better. And I could care less about card features.
