NV30 is there and 3x faster than Radeon 9700 in Quake III (almost 600 fps in 1280x1024x32, fsaa 4x)? Nice joke from China's pcpop website ......... but I really hope that "joke" comes true though ....

Sorry, on the second thought I think it's 3x pixel shader more than Radeon 9700... not 3x faster in Quake3 .... and it has 3dmark 2001 score over 25000

Okay, those aren't benches. This has already been discussed. Those graphs were just made based on estimates as to how it will perform.

I was a die-hard Nvidia fan from the Riva-128 to the GF3-ti200. I replaced the ti200 with my current Radeon 8500 and it has been great. Driver support has not been a problem and ATI has been releasing frequent updates. At this time I will probably upgrade to the 9700. I like to play FS2002 with all the details/AA turned up and the 8500/XP1700+ combo just can't cut it. Lucky for me my company has a program with ATI where I can get 1 of any board per year for 1/2 the MSRP. So it looks like a $200 9700 Pro for me when they hit the ATI online store

Just curious as to which drivers you are using? I have the R8500 64mb AIW and I have been noticing that games have not been up to par lately. I hope this is just a driver issue and that i dont have to upgrade to the 9700 so soon.

ATM I'm using the earliest version of Omega/Plutonium XP drivers (X1.0.71) I tried using the newer Plutonium's on my Jukebox w/ PCI Radeon 7500 & it caused all kinds of problems - I moved to the Catalyst drivers for the Jukebox, but am happy with the early Plutonium's drivers for my Workstation.

Well I voted yes but I'm happy with my Ti4400 for now. Just seemed like the better answer. Anyway, if I can pick up the 9700 for let's say $300 (at some point in time) and sell my Ti4400 for $150 then I might do it. Let's just see how the next gen of games play on my card... DoomIII might push me over the edge.

I will probably regret it but I am switching in mass this weekend. I had four 9700s show up this morning so it will be a busy weekend.

If you plan to play DOOM III I gurantee you that when it comes there will be cards 2x faster than the 9700 and the next gen of Nvidia (beyond the NV30) will have already been released. So you'd probably be picking up a Radeom 10000 or NV35 for around $300 by that time

When do you all think Comanche 4 will be playable at 1600x1200 with maximum FSAA and AF on ? I know some games are at 1600x1200 with maximum FSAA and AF. But both Nvidia and ATI latest video card only gets 9 to 12 fps in Comanche 4 at 1600x1200 with maximum FSAA and AF on i believe. It was in anandtech's review. I could be wrong. Inless of course 12 fps is playable to you.

I have my geforce 3 orig and it has been the greatest card I have even owned.
But I have a ATi 8500 le in my the wife's PC and it works great also.

Newer game are just now starting to push my beloved geforce 3 to it's limit and this new 9700 looks like it is a real winner.

The geforce 4 looked good but I wanted to wait one more round before upgrading.

I am going to buy this card when it comes in stock at a trustworthy online vendor.

The thing about Comanche 4 is that it is heavily CPU dependent. Put a P4 3Ghz CPU with dual channel DDR, a fsb of 667Mhz, in a rig and it will probably do what you want it to.

After playing around with the 9700 I am glad I switched. The drivers are for the most part very solid except for an issue in Battlefield 1942 which is being addressed in the 7.76 drivers. Picture quality/performance is outstanding in games and the 2d on my Sony F520 is second only to my Parhelia.

Bingo13 cool! Did you try a lot of games at 1600x1200 with 6x FSAA and 16x AF to see if any of them ran too slow? I am just wondering. Also do u have 6x FSAA and 16x AF on all the time now? I would think. Or at least 4x FSAA.
